motion to withdraw
BURKE EMA REPORT
The Burke County Emergency Management Agency
responded to 95 patients’ calls during the week ending
S ept. 19. Of those, 5 8 resulted in transports, including 30
to Augusta hospitals and one to another out-of- county
hospital. Twenty five of the transports were determined
to be emergencies and 33 were non-emergent.
The agency also answered 15 fire calls during the week.
They included two brush/grass fires, seven rescues, two
smoke scares and four unspecified calls.

Mayor Greg Carswell’s at
torney, J. Grady Blanchard,
filed a September 7 Motion
to Withdraw Representation
document in the Superior Court
of Bulloch County. The docu
ment states that Carswell failed
to pay legal fees in a reasonable
amount of time. Carswell faces
four counts, including Theft by
Fraud, Theft by Taking, Theft
by Deception and Forgery in
the 2nd Degree.
According to the December
1 Indictment, Carswell is ac
cused of willfully and fraudu
lently using a Georgia Ficense
number, taking more than
$ 11,000 in currency from a title
pawn shop where he worked,
and stealing at least $5,000 by
intentionally creating fictitious
accounts.
He is currently suspended
from his duties as Mayor of
Waynesboro, as ordered by
Governor Brian Kemp.

The terms of four members
of the Development Author
ity will expire at the end of
September. Preston Conner,
Barrett Wimberly, Findsay
Gentry and Suzanne Sharkey’s
terms are all set to expire.
Conner is relocating to Florida
and does not wish to be reap
pointed. The others expressed
a desire to be reappointed. The
term of service for each posi
tion is four years. The County
Commissioners decide who is
appointed. The panel elected to
re-appoint Barrett, Wimberly,
Gentry and Sharkey. They
also appointed John Jackson.
All terms expire September
30,2025.
The terms of Planning Com
missioners Fee Webster, John
Highsmith and Carolyn Heath
expire at the end of September
this year. In addition, Wayne
Fively, resigned, creating a va
cancy in District 5. The Board
of Commissioners traditionally
lets each commissioner nomi
nate a member from his or her
district, but the whole Board
approves the appointment. The
terms are four years each.
On the recommendation of
Commissioner Art Fively, the
board approved Ben Roberts to
represent District 5. The panel
also reappointed Webster and
Heath and appointed Jason
Blackburn to represent Evan
Martin’s District 3, replacing
Highsmith.
