Life Lines
By Linda Lariscey
CREATED FOR HIS GLORY
...everyone who is called by my
name, whom I created for my glory,
whom I formed and made.
Isaiah 41:7(ESV)
Have you ever wondered why you were born? What are
you meant for, and what is your reason for being? God,
who is Love and Life, created every person in His image.
He makes it clear that He created us for His glory. In Christ,
you are a vessel of His glory. Wow, what an incredible truth
to ponder in our hearts.
God’s glory is His goodness, His very essence. Chabod is
the Hebrew word for glory, which translates as “full glory,
the full glory of the Lord.” It refers to the character of the
Lord, His majesty and weight. He is the first and the last,
the preeminent One. As believers, if we are to reflect His
greatness, we must begin to connect to who we are in Him.
We must guard our daily thoughts by disconnecting with
the outside world of turmoil to dwell in our inner sanctuary
of glory.
Do not resist who God made you to be by opposing the life
the Lord planned for you. Align with the genuine person
that you are in Christ. Recognize that you are valuable to
Him. He is interested in every detail of your life, both small
and great. In fact, His glory is seen best in the minutiae of
creation. If He sees the little sparrow tumble from the tree,
don’t you know that He sees you? Invest your time to see
His glory. The midnight sky declares Him; the fall leaves
profess Him while the splendor of green grass praises Him.
And you, Beloved, are in Him, a carrier of His glory.

COVID slowly
creeps downward
SHELLIE SMITLEY
thetruecitizen.shellie@gmail.com
COVID-19 is showing signs
that it may be on a downward
trend locally.
Burke County’s positivity
rate for the period that includes
September 2-15 dropped to
20.9%. The preceding 2-week
period saw a positivity rate of
24.3%.
The Georgia Department of
Public Health reported 79 new
cases for the 2-week period
prior to September 20, indicat
ing the lowest number of new
cases during any 2-week period
this month.
The Burke County Public
Schools system reported 12
new student-related and 7
faculty/staff-related cases of
the virus during the last week.
In-patient numbers are de
creasing at area hospitals,
according to the Georgia Co
ordinating Center. The website
listed Burke Medical Center’s
and Doctors Hospital’s re
gional patient distributions as
normal September 20, 2021.
The patient load at University
Tragedy
the goal of $1000 had been
exceeded, reaching $1850. She
issued the following statement
September 18:
“I had the opportunity to
have Lazaro in my homeroom
class and to teach him English
Language Arts. From day
one, he captured a piece of my
heart with his sweet and caring
demeanor. We conversed a lot
during homeroom about Mi
ami, his family and the move
to Waynesboro.
“From the day he emailed
me to tell me he and his parents
had COVID, I became very
concerned, because he told me
that both his parents were in
the hospital. I immediately felt
so much compassion for him,
because I could not imagine
what it would feel like to have
both parents in the hospital, in
a new town, so far away from
extended family to support.
He stayed in contact with me
throughout the time of his sick
ness , always ensuring he stayed
on top of his work. One time,
his mother and I had a conver
sation through text. I reached
out to her because I wanted to
know what I could do to help
them. She told me to continue
to pray for her and her husband.
“Eventually I heard of the
news regarding his father,” she
continued. “I spoke to Lazaro
and offered my condolences.
And a few days later, the news
of his mother came across my
email. It honestly was a gut-
punch to me. I have recently
lost my cousin and then my
assistant pastor (I am the senior
pastor of The City of Victory in
Sylvania) to COVID, a couple
of months apart. My assistant
pastor was only 41; and fully
vaccinated.
“I have traveled this journey
with his wife and children, and
I am well aware of the heart
break of the process. So, when
I thought of Lazaro losing
BOTH parents....I could not
imagine the pain and grief that
he and his family were experi
encing. I had to do something
to help. That’s why I became so
passionate about this,” Peeples
concluded.
Lazaro, demonstrating re
markable composure in an
interview September 17, said
his teacher helped him a lot. He
also credited Janice Schmidt,
owner of Junk in the Trunk,
with assisting the family. He
specifically mentioned neigh
bor Pat Steele for arranging
meals through the Sisters of
Service organization and Mary
Yelton realtor Bonnie Taylor.
Hospital and Augusta Uni
versity Health are listed as
overcrowded, compared to
severe two weeks ago.
DPH reported that as of
September 20, 48% of the
County’s residents received
at least one dose of the vac
cine, while 42% are fully
vaccinated.
Nationally, an FDA adviso
ry committee met to consider
Pfizer’s application for third-
dose authorization. An of
ficial FDA ruling is expected
soon, as the agency seems
likely to authorize a third dose
only for older Americans and
those vulnerable to severe
Covid-19. In the meantime,
initial results from a clini
cal study look promising in
regards to the effectiveness
and safety of the Pfizer and
BioNTech COVID-19 vac
cine for children ages 5 to 11
years old.
The Biden administration
intends to lift travel restric
tions to the United States in
November for foreigners who
are fully vaccinated.
Continued from front
A BCHS teacher, fluent in
Spanish, has assisted Lazaro’s
grandmother, who does not
speak English.
“The community has been
helping us out a lot,” he said.
“They have given us food,
water, money and they have
helped us out with rehoming
our dogs. They have helped us
out a lot with our grandma be
cause her nerves are really bad.
They have been supportive.”
Translating for his grief-
stricken grandmother, Lazaro
said Paulina expressed her
gratitude for the community’s
support during this time of
tremendous pain. The rest of
her children reside in Cuba
and for decades her entire life
has centered based around Ivis.
Lazaro said he and Kenia re
main strong by staying focused
on moving back to the Miami
area this week where they
will be closer to other family
members.
“Me and my sister have been
staying strong. We just don’t
think about what is happening.
We don’t think about the bad,
we just think about the good,”
he said. “We just think about
moving forward.”
The public is still welcome
to assist the family with reloca
tion and funeral costs.
“They had suffered too much
heartache and needed to be with
their family,” White said. “For
this reason, if anyone would
like to make a donation they
may drop off or mail a check
payable to Wimberly House
Ministries at P.O. Box 50
Waynesboro. "Rudy Coneheso
Family Funds” should be writ
ten on the memo line of the
check. A donation acknowl
edgement letter will follow.”
Peeples said she hopes others
feel the same compassion for
humanity; and assist in what
ever capacity that they are able.
“The fundraising campaign
will continue through Friday,
September 24,” she said. “If
anyone would like to be a part,
they may do so by donating to
the GOFUNDME link or mail
ing a check/money order to
BCMS, with LM in the memo
line. The family is most ap
preciative for all the thoughts,
prayers, donations, and love
shown toward them during this
short time of being a resident
of Burke County.”
