wed in December
Mr. and Mrs. Christopher
Ray Landing are pleased to
announce the engagement of
their daughter, Ashton Brooke
Landing to William Herbie
Dixon, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Herbie Dixon of Girard.
Brooke is a 2016 graduate
of Edmund Burke Academy
and a 2020 graduate of Geor
gia Southern University. She
graduated with a Bachelor of
Science in Early Childhood
Education. She is employed
by the Burke County Board of
Education as a second-grade
teacher.
Will is a 2016 graduate of
Edmund Burke Academy. He
works on his family farm in
Girard.
Brooke is the granddaughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Dobson Mo
ran Gay, Jr. and Mr. and Mrs.
Jimmy Ray Landing. Will is
the grandson of Mr. and Mrs.
Claude William Hopper, Jr. and
the late Bernice T. Dixon and
the late Charles F. Dixon.
The wedding is planned for
December 11,2021. Invitations
will be sent.

DPH reports breakthrough case numbers
The Georgia Department of
Public Health reported data on
COVID-19 breakthrough cases
through October 5.
Out of more than 4,900,000
vaccinated Georgians, slightly
more than 60,000 have tested
positive for the vims. There
have been 648 deaths of vac
cinated individuals. People 65
years and older accounted for
25.8% of breakthrough cases.
People between the ages of
65-84 years old, accounted for
1,120 hospitalization break
through cases and 336 deaths.
In comparison, of the more
than 5,800,000 individuals
who have not received the vac
cine, more than 800,000 tested
positive for Coronavirus and
slightly more than 10,000 died.
While the Coronavirus con
tinues to make its rounds in
Burke County, the numbers are
slowly decreasing. The Coun
ty ’s positivity rate of conducted
tests dropped to 14.9% for the
timeframe of September 16-29,
down nearly 2% from the prior
2-week period. DPH reported
45 new cases for the 2-week
period prior to October 4.
Burke County Public Schools
reported 18 new student cases
of the vims and 2 faculty/staff
cases during the last week.

Baptist Church.
Early voting for the general
election will begin Tuesday,
Oct. 12, at the Burke County
Board of Elections Office lo
cated on the first floor of the
historic courthouse in Waynes
boro. There will be two Satur
days to vote, Oct. 16 and 23,
and the hours will be 9 a.m. to
5 p.m. each day.

The Burke County FFA and Young Farmers will hold a fall
plant sale 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the high school
greenhouse. Plants include pansies and an assortment of fall
vegetables. There will also be a tutorial on container gardening
with fall vegetables.
THURSDAY, OCT. 7
The Burke County Retired Educators Association will meet
3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021 at Mt. Olive African Methodist
Episcopal Church on West Seventh St. State Rep. Gloria Frzier
of District 126 is guest speaker. All attendees are required to
wear a mask.
SATURDAY, OCT. 9
City of Keysville will celebrate its annual Come Home to
Keysville Day. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. The public is
invited.
A motorcycle run to benefit Blakeney Elementary school
teacher, Jennifer Petrea Marshall will take place at The Rabbit
Hole. Registration will begin at noon and the ride will begin at 1
p.m. Motorcyclists are asked to park out back and enter through
the rear entrance The Rabbit Hole Restaurant.
Edmond Burke Chapter of Daughters of the American Revo
lution (DAR) will host Hollis Bush at the Burke County Public
Library at 11 a.m. Bush is the senior director of Forces United,
a nonprofit dedicated to connecting warriors and their families,
who live in Greater Augusta area of Georgia and South Carolina,
with resources that improve their lives.
