Augusta hospitals and two to other out-of-county hos
pitals. Thirty one of the transports were determined to
be emergencies and 30 were non-emergent.

They included two fire/smoke alarms, five rescues, one
public service call and two unspecified calls.
Standoff
Continued from front
Burke County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at 20 Magno
lia Acres Drive in an attempt to arrest Nakie Hankerson on
outstanding warrants.
to persuade Hankerson to exit
the residence, and not knowing
the status of the female subject
inside, the BCSO deemed the
situation a “barricaded subject
incident” and activated the
BCSO Special Response Team
and negotiators.
After approximately three
hours of negotiations, the fe
male safely emerged from the
residence unharmed. Through
continued negotiations with
family members and law en
forcement, Hankerson said he
was prepared to come out and
he emerged from the residence,
complied with the orders of
BCSO’s Special Response
Team Members and was taken
into custody without incident.
He was not found to be in
possession of any weapons, ac
cording to Norman. Though he
was arrested on the outstanding
warrants, no additional charges
will be placed against Hanker
son in connection to Monday’s
incident..
In the statement, Sheriff
Alfonzo Williams thanked the
men and women of the BCSO,
Waynesboro Police Depart
ment, Burke County EMA
and Burke County 911 for
their swift and professional ef
forts in resolving the situation.
Additionally, he mentioned
Hankerson’s family members,
, Waynesboro’s acting Mayor
James “Chick” Jones and other
community members that were
on the scene.
“The collaborative efforts
of all parties speaking with
Hankerson certainly helped in
convincing him to peacefully
surrender,” the statement said.
