FIRST DEER
Peyton Wheat,13, a student of Faith Christian Acad
emy, killed her first deer, a 9-point Whitetail buck,
while hunting on October 17, accompanied by George
Meyer.
FIRST BUCK
Faythe Jones, 13, a student of Burke County Middle
School, killed her first buck on her first try. Faythe
used a 220 Rifle that her dad, Mr. Leonard Howard
has trained her to be very handy with.
FIRST DEER
Foster Braswell, a second grader at Edmund Burke
Academy, shot his first deer, an eight point buck, on
October 15. He is the son of Rodney and Shannon
Braswell.
Twenty citizens completed a ten-week course,
BCSO holds Citizen’s
Police Academy graduation
Burke County Sheriff’s Office
held its Citizens Police Acad
emy for 20 graduates Thursday,
Oct 21,2021.
Over the course of 10 weeks,
these cadets learned firearms,
taser training, traffic laws, the
constitution and so much more.
The Citizen’s Police Academy
is a program instituted by Sher
iff Alfonzo Williams and is de
signed to educate Burke County
residents about the Sheriff’s
Office and how deputies enforce
local and state laws.
The goal of CPA is to create
and develop a growing nucleus
of responsible, well informed
residents, who have the poten
tial to influence public opinion
concerning law enforcement
practices and the delivery of
services.
The 10 week program for
Burke County residents is taught
by certified Burke County In
structors. Participants are in
volved in actual training ses
sions to get a broader under
standing of the police function.
Sessions last approximately 2
hours and participants meet
once a week on a designated
evening.
Participants must pass a
criminal history background
check and fill out an applica
tion to the academy. Participa
tion in the program is volun
tary. Graduates of the CPA play
a vital role in the community
by improving communication
between the public and law
enforcement and by provid
ing local input and support
throughout the county. CPA
attendees are made aware of
the procedures and techniques
used by deputies in a variety
of scenarios, together with the
rationale and justification in
support of those procedures or
techniques.
Class attendees receive in
formation and instruction on
such issues as use of force,
defensive tactics, narcotics
enforcement, special opera
tions, criminal investigations,
evidence gathering techniques,
and the K-9 unit.

202nd moved to its current
armory in Waynesboro, Geor
gia. Since that time personnel
of the 202nd supported the
state’s coordinated response
to the COVID-19 pandemic,
augmented law enforcement
in response to civil unrest and
mobilized to Washington D.C.
to support security operations
for the presidential inaugura
tion.

Roberts Participates in
Area Four Junior Floral Design CDE
Burke County Middle School FFA member Sawyer Rob
erts recently competed in the Area Four FFA Junior Floral
Design Career Development Event. The event was held at
Toombs County Agriculture Center in Lyons. The Floral
Design Career Development Event allows students to utilize
the principles and elements of design. Each student makes
one floral arrangement and identifies 25 flowers or tools.
Students use the principles of balance, proportion and scale,
focal point, emphasis, rhythm, harmony and unity and the
technique of flower placement to create their designs.
