BURKE EMA REPORT
The Burke County Emergency Management Agency re
sponded to 96 patients ’ calls during the week ending Oct .31.
Of those, 60 resulted in transports, including 33 to Augusta
hospitals and two to other out-of-county hospitals. Twenty
three of the transports were determined to be emergencies
and 37 were non-emergent.
The agency also answered 14 fire calls during the week.
They included nine rescues, one power line down, one ve
hicle rescue and three unspecified calls.

does not allow for that,” said

19. Skinner said she con
tacted the Deans Bridge and
the Bobby Jones Walmart, who
have already implemented the
program and have reported no
problems with it.
Walmart requires shoppers
to enter in their identification
information when ordering and
then to show it again at pick up,
Skinner stated.
City management will look
more closely at the issue and
present it to the council for
their vote at the next meeting
November 15 at 6 p.m.

Additional defendants also
face state charges in the inves
tigation.
Investigators from the
Burke County Sheriff’s Of
fice worked with the DEA to
develop the investigation that
identified the defendants and
led to searches and subsequent
seizures of cocaine, crack
cocaine, marijuana, drug traf
ficking paraphernalia, cash and
more than two dozen firearms.
Agencies investigating Oper
ation Washout include the DEA
and the Burke County Sheriff’s
Office, with assistance from the
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,
Firearms and Explosives, U.S.
Probation Service, the U.S.
Marshals Service, the Geor
gia National Guard Counter
drug Task Force, the Screven
County Sheriff’s Office, the
McDuffie County Sheriff’s
Office, the Columbia County
Sheriff’s Office, and the Rich
mond County Sheriff’s Office.
It is being prosecuted for the
United States by Assistant U.S.
Attorney Henry W. Syms Jr.

legal drugs, illegally possessed
firearms, and the violent crime
that accompanies them,” said

our neighborhoods safe.”
