Life Lines
By Linda Lariscey
STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW
...and two hundred and eighty
thousand from Benjamin, armed with
small shields and with bows. All these
were brave fighting men.
2 Chronicles 14:8
The second and final son of Rachel and Jacob had a rough
start in life. His mother died in childbirth, and as she lay
dying, she called her son Benoni meaning “son of my
sorrow.” But Daddy intervened and called him Benjamin
meaning “son of my right hand.” Words have power, and
names carry identity. Jacob knew the power of a name
change because the Lord had changed his name, which
meant “deceiver,” to Israel, “fighter of God.”
The tribe of Benjamin became mighty fighters of God.
Famous for their skill with the bow, they could shoot arrows
or sling stones right and left-handed. They were said to be
able to shoot at a hair and never miss. What would be the
outcome of this tribe if they had carried the heavy label of
sorrow and pain?
What you answer to affects you either for good or bad.
Labels are sticky, so which ones are you wearing? Separate
yourself from any past identity that branded you as a victim.
Your identity is now in Christ. You are a son of the Almighty’s
right hand, a straight arrow in His quiver. You are his weapon
of warfare. Be brave and strike down the devil with God’s
word in your mouth.

Continued from 5
Republican Representatives
who voted in favor of the In
frastructure bill, not a single
Republican Representative
from Georgia added his or her
name to the rolls in the affirma
tive. Congressional District
12 Representative Rick Allen
of Augusta was one of seven
Georgia Republican represen
tatives who apparently had
greater concern for party loy
alty than loyalty to the people
of Georgia.
We should all watch to see as
various construction projects
are underway if Representative
Rick Allen founder of R.W.
Allen & Associates Construc
tion Co. will bid for the jobs he
voted against. It is reasonable
to assume that any contract
won by his firm will put money
in the congressman’s pocket
and falsely allow him to state
he works night and day for
the people. Politicians have a
practice of being prominently
photographed as construction
projects are kicked-off. We
should keep our eyes open to
see if Rep. Allen makes an
appearance. There are true
friends and there are sometime
friends. It is apparent where
Allen stands and it bears re
peating, a friend in need is a
friend indeed.

and selling them for two dollars
apiece during her fifteen-min
ute breaks and thirty-minute
brown bag lunches.
Whether it was Mama’s
stellar salesman pitch, my
expert crocheting skills, or a
bit of both, those headbands
sold like hotcakes to her fel
low plant workers. Every day,
she would come home from
work, announce how much I
had made, then begin pulling
crumpled dollar bills from her
purse. I was gloriously happy.
At an early age, I learned
that I could make a living by
the turn of my hands. This I
learned from my simple Ap
palachian folks.
That lesson stuck. It has
carried me down through the
journey of life. I still earn a
living by thinking and working
creatively.
