Sandeford receives Outstanding Georgia
Peanut Farmer of the Year Award

Ralph Sandeford, Mid-
ville, Georgia, received the
Outstanding Georgia Peanut
Farmer of the Year Award for
District 3 at the 45th annual
Georgia Peanut Farm Show
and Conference, Jan. 20,2022,
at the University of Georgia
Tifton Campus Conference
Center, Tifton, Georgia. The
award is sponsored by the
Georgia Peanut Commission
and Agri Supply.
The Georgia Peanut Com
mission presents the Outstand
ing Georgia Peanut Farmer of
the Year awards to one farmer
in each of the commission’s
five districts. This award is
designed to honor farmers who
have given life-long devotion
to peanut farming and who
have the passion, diligence,
leadership and desire to see
that the peanut industry in the
state of Georgia continues to
represent the highest quality
possible.
Sandeford is a third-genera
tion farmer who began farming
in 1981 after finishing college
at the University of Georgia.
On the farm, Sandeford grows
2,700 acres of cotton, peanuts,
com and has a few pecan trees.
His son Jacob farms with him.
Sandeford also operates Mid-
ville Warehouse, a cotton gin
and grain storage facility.
Sandeford is a graduate of
the Peanut Leadership Acad
emy and served on the South
eastern Cotton Board. In Burke
County, he has served on the
advisory committee for the

reopening of the University of
Georgia Southeast Research &
Education Center in Midville.

NELSON SLAYS DEER
Sarah Beth Nelson, 8, killed her first deer, pictured
above, on Jan. 6 while hunting with her daddy, Ben
Nelson. The doe weighed 116 pounds. Two days
later, she snagged a 6-point buck, at right, while
hunting with both her daddy and mama, Elyse
Nelson. Sarah Beth is a third-grader at Edmund
Burke Academy.
