Life Lines
By Linda Lariscey
THE PEACEFUL FRUIT OF RIGHTEOUS
NESS
For the moment all discipline seems
painful rather than pleasant, but
later it yields the peaceful fruit of
righteousness to those who have been
trained by it.
(Hebrews 12:1 IKS V)
There is no escaping the Father’s love when you put your
life into His hands. He will never leave or forsake you. He
watches over you while you sleep and knows when you sit
and when you lie down. Why would the God of the universe
have such interest in you? Simply put, He is your Creator,
and in Christ, you return to Him as your Father. The Lord
performs a work within you that only He can do. He will
raise you to trust in His unfailing love for you.
How does God teach or discipline you to trust Him? You
may not like the answer, but through hardship and pressure,
we enter the Kingdom of God. We find our refuge of
undisturbed peace only in the Kingdom of God. When
you are going through difficult times, do not allow the devil
to trick you into believing that God does not love you. The
Father only disciplines those who belong to Him. Children
do not like discipline. Who likes to give up their cell phone
or have the keys to the car taken from you? But parents
who love their children will always discipline their kids. The
parent who neglects their children by allowing them to do
whatever they think is best hates their children.
Jesus taught us that He is the vine, and we are the branches
because we abide in Him. The Father comes to prune us so
we can bear more fruit. Pruning cuts away what sucks the
life out of us. What we cling to are often thoughts, habits,
and belief systems we must release, for they counter our
peace and security. The discipline of the Lord produces
pain, and you have no pleasure in it, but it only lasts for
a short season. As you cry out to the Lord for help and
declare His word you will experience that He is faithful to
His promises. You will change your way of thinking, and
along the way, the Lord will deposit the peaceful fruit of
righteousness within you. You will eat that fruit throughout
your life and share it with others. Blessed are you because
you have tasted the Lord’s goodness. You know you can
rely upon Him, for He is your refuge from every storm.

LETTER TO
THE EDITOR
Dear Editor,
I feel compelled to respond to the opinion
piece in last week's issue concerning implement
ing ordinance changes for authorizing package
sales in Waynesboro. I realize it is opinion, but
it should also be reasonably factual.
The referendum approved by the voters stated
"Shall the issuance of licenses for the package
sale of distilled spirits be approved?”
The referendum authorized the legalization
of what is commonly referred to as Package
Shops or Liquor Stores, it made no reference to
wine-tastings.
As a result of the passing of the referendum,
the City Council is looking at ordinances of other
cities where this is already in place. We are not
agonizing over details; we are doing our due
diligence in order to adopt an ordinance that is
in the best interest of all our citizens.
In reference to concerns about debauchery, if
the writer had done a little research she would
have found that every ordinance (or ordinances
we are looking at) that deals with package sales
requires that there is no onsite consumption and
there is no loitering allowed on the premises.
So, we are not concerned with debauchery any
more than many other cities in Georgia.
The Council is not so much concerned with
the number of package stores but the concern
is possible zoning issues and distance issues.
Concerning wine-tastings, it wasn't until the
Georgia State Legislature passed a law in 2020
authorizing wine-tasting in package stores—if
that is the case, then evidently before that law,
wine-tasting was only legal in establishments
that were licensed to sell alcohol by the drink.
So, I guess Waynesboro is not so out of touch as
we were led to believe by the writer.
We are not Columbia County and we are not
writing an ordinance for any other city, we are
responsible to the citizens of Waynesboro to
craft an ordinance that meets the needs of our
citizens.
We have faith in our citizens and hope they
have faith that we are doing our due diligence
to craft an ordinance that will best serve the
Citizens of our Community.
In conclusion, I am a life-long resident of
Waynesboro and have had the privilege to
be an elected representative of the people of
Waynesboro for over thirty years, in all that
time I have never heard anyone utter the phrase,
"What Waynesboro really needs is a wine-tasting
venue!"
Perhaps our local establishments who are
already authorized to sell alcohol by the drink
will look at possibly hosting wine-tasting events
in accordance with the State Law concerning
wine-tasting events.
Thanks,
Bill Tinley
