ment will pay for 49 projects
in parts of rural Georgia most
lacking in broadband con
nectivity, Gov. Brian Kemp
announced during a ceremony
at the state Capitol.
"In Georgia, we are get
ting very close to closing the
gap between the served and
unserved," Kemp said. "We
wanted to reach as many Geor
gians as possible."
The governor appointed
three bipartisan committees
last June to sift through ap
plications to share in Georgia's
$4.8 billion allocation of fed
eral COVID-19 relief funds.
The committees focused
separately on offsetting the
economic impact of the pan
demic, extending broadband
connectivity and helping pay
for needed water and sewer
improvements.
Tuesday's awards were the
first selected by the Broadband
Committee.
"Broadband has truly turned
into another piece of infrastruc
ture just as important as roads,
water and sewer and elec

Appropriations Committee
Chairman Terry England, R-
LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Dear Editor,
Before the Sardis steam en
gine was moved, it sat in the
same location for more than
60 years. If Robert Bell wanted
this engine, why did he wait
until 2021 to move it?
Secondly, I did not back
down as you stated in a recent
article. If you will recall the
conversation; Obviously, you
cannot. It went like this I said,
"If there is legal documentation
stating that it is Mr. Bell's they
should be able to produce it and
if there is documentation (such
as a will) no one would ques
tion it." To which his daughter
replied that it burned up in a
house fire.
Before I could say anything
else the city attorney spoke up
and said that the legal docu
mentation was the letter that
the mayor had written in 2013.
Which brings us to the next
point, which I also stated in
the council meeting,how could
a mayor state that this steam
engine belongs to this man and
neither of the last two mayors
grew up in Sardis so how are
they to know how long it sat
on city property. This is when
the "city attorney" spoke again
and said that the letter written
by the previous mayor was a
legal document and if this city
council decided to go to court,
they would lose. That is when
Mayor Lane spoke and said
something to Mr. Bell about
signing a letter. I asked, is that
it? The mayor replied yes.
And after all of this there is
still no proof of ownership.
By the way, after doing
some checking with another
attorney—the city attorney" has
it wrong. The letter is not a
legal document since it was not
recorded in a court. Most items
such as personal property, real
estate, etc, would be in a will
and recorded for the courts.
A copy of Hardy Bell’s will
can be obtained in Richmond
County where Hardy Bell
passed away. Why didn't the
"city attorney" ask for that?
Because instead of listening to
peoples’ concerns, he was just
wanting to get the meeting over
with. So, he states that if they
go to court they would lose, ba
sically to end the conversation.
The city of Sardis has very
few historical Items left. I feel
it is a just cause to argue this
point.
All I ask is that the truth be
told. Not he said-she said. THE
TRUTH.
Sincerely,
Chip Dixon
