no one informed us about gang activity,” said acting Director
Robert Allen in a Jan. 29 email. “As far as my personal opinion,
most of these coaches have been participants in their younger
years, and now that they are adults they are giving back positively.
We don’t know who are gang members, but, we will monitor for
suspicious activity for the safety of our participants.”
Snyder also pointed out that not all people in gangs are bad
people. Sometimes young people are bulbed into joining. As they
get older, they sometimes separate themselves from the gang unit.
Snyder encourages that anyone who witnesses gang activity
should contact the BCSO. A group of people wearing a common
color could be a sign of a gang. Spray painting graffiti on build
ings is often done by gang members. Also, if a parent suspects
that their child is involved in a gang, he recommends that they
report it so that BCSO deputies can monitor the child’s activities
and attempt to provide other outlets.
“If you think it is gang activity, report it,” Snyder said. “If it’s
not gang activity, we can determine that. It’s better than saying
nothing.”
