BC Bears Tennis team
continues its region run

The BCHS tennis teams
played their last two regular
season matches last week. On
Tuesday, they faced off against
Morgan County High School in
Madison. It’s safe to say that
this wasn’t Burke County’s
best performance of the season.
Both the girls and the boys
teams lost their matches.
The BCHS girls went 0-5
against Morgan County, but
with Kyleigh Egan and Josalyn
Roberts playing well. The boys
went 1-4. Keegan McDonald
continued his spectacular sea
son, defeating Charlie Martin
with relative ease. While he
was unable to come home with
a win, Sam Eckerman had a
strong performance against
Morgan County, winning six
games across all of his sets.
The boys who played doubles
also played solid, each win
ning 4 total games across their
respective sets.
With that defeat behind
them, the Bears were able to
bounce back and play well
against ARC out of Augusta.
The match took place last
Wednesday at home. The girls
played with determination,
and ultimately came out on
top winning 3-2. The boys,
however, lost 2-3.
Per usual, Kyleigh Egan
had a strong outing, winning
both of her sets and defeating
her opponent easily. The same
goes for Ashlee Ray in singles
and Bridgett Sloop and Janiya
Walker in doubles. The match
of the day, though, belonged to
Madison Martin and Kennedy
Roberts. Martin and Roberts
narrowly lost a thriller which
saw one set briefly tied at 6-6.
Ultimately, ARC’s girls came
out on top, winning the set
7-6. This loss didn’t stop an
all-out strong performance for
the girls team. Winning against
ARC allowed them to finish the
regular season 4-2 in region
play, losing only to Harlem and
Morgan County. This puts the
Burke County girls team in a
good position heading into the
region tournament
The boys team narrowly lost
to ARC 2-3. In singles, Ethan
Coalson won a thriller which
spilled over into three sets. In
doubles, Sam Eckerman and
Ethan Mooneyham won their
match. They showed near-
impeccable teamwork as their
match also went into a third
set. During their match against
ARC, Burke County mixed
things up a little bit. Keegan
McDonald, who normally
plays singles,played a doubles
match with Shane Davis, who
played his first doubles match
of the year. Additionally, Sam
Eckerman tag-teamed with
Ethan Mooneyham and Ryan
Morris and Ethan Coalson
played singles. Despite this
loss, the boys finished their
regular season 4-2 in region
play, only losing to Morgan
County and ARC. Like the
girls, they are in a good posi
tion heading into the region
tournament
With Spring Break here,
Burke County’s tennis teams
will receive a much needed
rest prior to the region tourna
ment. As of now, no one knows
when and where this tourna
ment will be. One thing is for
sure though: Burke County
will be there, and their strong
season performance is sure to
continue.
