Bears win two against
Upson-Lee to take series
The BCHS bears baseball
team won a two-out-of-three
series against Upson-Lee in the
brst round of the state playoffs
last weekend. They will face
Stephens County in round 2
starting Wednesday (today).
GAME l
Both teams were strong on
the hill on Friday, but Upson-
Lee was just a little bit stronger
at the plate in a victory over
Burke County Friday. Phillip
Flodges started the game for
BCFIS and recorded 12 outs.
Jackson Blakley pitched the
Knights to victory. The righty
allowed zero hits and one run
over seven innings, striking out
15 and walking one.
Hodges took the loss, going
four innings, allowing three
runs on four hits and striking
out six.
Trae Jones went 2-for-3 at
the plate to lead Upson-Lee
in hits.
GAME 2
In the second game of the
double-header, Burke County
got things moving in the second
inning when an error scored the
first of five runs for the Bears.
Marshall Flowers earned the
victory on the hill for BCHS,
allowing three hits and one run
over six and a third innings,
striking out seven. Aiden
Roberson threw two-thirds of
an inning out of the bullpen.
Jordan Wainwright was on
the pitcher's mound for Upson-
Lee. The hurler allowed seven
hits and four runs over three
and a third innings, striking out
three. Evan Helms and Beau
Ellington entered the game
from the bullpen, throwing two
innings and one and two-thirds
innings respectively.
Burke County tallied one
home run on the day with
Beckam Ramirez going long
in the sixth inning.
The Bears scattered nine hits
in the game. Owen Adams and
Myles Heatwole all managed
multiple hits for Burke County.
Each had two hits. The Bears
didn't commit a single error in
the held. Brice Marchman had
the most chances in the held
with eight.
Miller Patterson led Upson-
Lee with two hits in four at
bats.
GAME 3
Even though Burke County
gave up four runs in the hfth
inning, they still defeated the
Knights 10-4 on Saturday.
Upson-Lee’s offense in the
hfth was led by Beau Ellington,
Trae Jones, Jackson Blakley,
and Evan Helms, who all drove
in runs.
Burke County tallied five
runs in the hfth inning. The
big inning was thanks to sin
gles by Beckam Ramirez and
Myles Heatwole and doubles
by Jahkari Howard and Aiden
Roberson.
Hunter Carroll was the win
ning pitcher for Burke County
Varsity Bears. The bulldog
allowed one hit and two runs
over four innings, striking out
three. Roberson and Phillip
Hodges entered the game out of
the bullpen and helped to close
out the game in relief.
Jake Taylor led things off
on the mound for Upson-Lee,
surrendering zero runs on two
hits over three innings, strik
ing out four and walking zero.
Ellington, Jordan Wainwright
and Helms each contributed in
relief for Upson-Lee.
Burke County racked up 12
hits on the day. Dylan Dixon,
Roberson, Howard, and Seth
Meador each collected multiple
hits. Meador, Howard, Rober
son, and Dixon each collected
two hits.
