BCHS Track Team dominates Region

This past week on Tuesday
and Thursday, the Burke Coun
ty track team hosted the Region
Tournament. Both the girls and
the boys brought home region
championships with some ath
letes recording personal bests
in certain events.
When asked about the weeks
leading up to the tournament,
the coaches said that they felt
prepared. To help get ready
for region, the Bears held an
intersquad meet where the boys
and girls teams played with and
against one another. According
to Coach Purvis Dukes, “the
kids really get into it.” And
evidently, it helped.
For the girls, the top three
scorers in the tournament were
Burke County with 170, Mor
gan County with 121 and Cross
Creek with 111. As to the girls’
performance, Coach Dukes
said, “this was a total team
effort. Our girls really banded
together for one goal - to bring
home the region trophy.” At
this event, the coaches were
pleased with the way that the
athletes represented them
selves, the school district, and
community. There were several
girls that were region champs
in individual events. The top
four from each event receive
the opportunity to advance to
sectionals. The stats from the
girls meet can be found below.

The boys’ team played

did an awesome job as well,”
said head coach Purvis Dukes,
“and they came out ready to
compete.” Again all coaches
felt good about the teams’
preparation going into the re-
gionals. The top three scorers
in the tournament were Burke
County with 149.50, Cross
Creek with 137, and Morgan

This has been an interest
ing track season. Many of the
meets have been canceled due
to inclement weather. How
ever, whatever tricks Coach
Dukes and the BCHS track
team have been using have
paid off mighty well, and the
region tournament is proof
of that. The next step for the
team is to start preparing for
sectionals. Sectionals will be
held on May 7th, 2022 in Com
merce, Georgia, and the Burke
County track team is expecting
a performance as strong as they
had in the Region Tournament.
