Burke Health offers
3D Mammograms
Burke Health announced the arrival of a 3D breast imaging
system.
Using high-powered computing to convert digital breast im
ages into a stack of very thin layers or “slices” for radiologists to
review, the 3D breast imaging system is especially beneficial for
women with dense breast tissue or with a family history of breast
cancer. The machine is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration as a standard of care for breast cancer screening
and allows the hospital’s radiology department to offer more
advanced screenings for the community.
The clarity of 3D mammograms makes it easier to detect
smaller growths and thereby detect breast cancer in its earliest
stages. Overall, screening with 3D mammography increases
breast cancer detection rates by about 40% with 73% percent of
cancers found at 1 centimeter or smaller.
Patients can call their doctor or health care provider and re
quest a 3D mammogram at Burke Health or call 706-437-2673 to
schedule a 3D mammogram with an order from their physician.

ous issues. His certificate from the Georgia Professional Stan
dards Commission (GAPSC) had no record of such violations
either. She pointed out that I could view that information publicly
on the GAPSC’s website. So, I did. It was clean. If Columbia
County did indeed know of Hooker’s tendencies, no one bothered
to write it down where it mattered.
Dr. Williams did admit the victim’s mother was the first to
contact local law enforcement and that was not policy. She says
she has instructed personnel to adhere to the stated protocols in
these situations at all times.
What is always mind-boggling to me in these stories is the
failure of the adults involved to be the actual adults. Scott Hooker
was trusted to teach and care for children. There are accusations
he failed that trust. Those allegations have drastically altered his
life, the life of his family and the life of at least one high school
girl. And every bit of it could have been avoided if some adults
had been better in their roles as adults somewhere along the way.

a race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot. He doesn’t repre
sent my party. He doesn’t represent the values that the men and
women who wear the uniform are fighting for.... He’s the ISIL-a
militant Islamic fundamentalist group also called ISIS, Islamic
State-man of the year.”
Senator Marco Rubio said Trump was “a con artist who is
wholly unprepared to be president of the United States.” Gov
ernor Chris Christie criticized Trump’s temperament, his policy
proposals, and his ability to beat Democratic front-runner Hillary
Clinton in a general election. Senator Rand Paul said, "I think
the more people that get to know what Donald Trump has really
been for through the years, I think they're going to really worry
that he is a fake conservative."
To a person, once Donald Trump won the Republican nomina
tion each began to sing his praises. The same Lindsey Graham
who called Trump a jackass, crazy and unfit for office, after Trump
became President Graham lavished praise on him and even called
for him to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
The length of ethical abuses by President Trump is unprec
edented in American history including: never divesting from his
businesses, accepting gifts in violation of the Emoluments Clause
of the Constitution, using his office for private gain, providing
preferential treatment to the Trump Organization, and his refusal
to release his tax returns.
The acceptance of these abuses by respected Republican
officeholders who previously denounced Trump as unfit to be
President is a clear example of how democracy erodes and tyr
anny enters without objection. Few in Germany and Czechoslo
vakia imagined a leader could so easily dismantle longstanding
democratic institutions. Democracies are fragile, but as Leszek
Kolakowski once said, “In politics, being deceived is no excuse.”

credible. Seven-layer chocolate cakes, chicken pot pie, vegetable
soup and anything else you can name. Trust me on this: If you
ever have a chance to sit at my sister’s Sunday dinner table - or
especially when she cooks for the preachers (she really shows
off then) - DON’T turn it down. It will be the best country meal
of your life, with a bit of dazzle thrown in.
She taught my niece, Nicole, to cook. She’s a mother of five
so she doesn’t have the time to make the elaborate dishes that
her mama makes - she buys frozen yeast rolls for instance or a
roll of frozen corn then adds lots of butter to doctor it up - but
she’s a smart cook who knows how to whip up tasty meals and
stretch a dollar for a family of seven.
Nicole is a physical therapist. She is always working at least
one job or adding part-time work if her best friend, also a PT,
needs helps. On top of that, they are in church three to four times
a week and going to ballgames from here to kingdom come.
One day, exhausted, she dragged into the house. Her daughter,
Zoe, who was 12 at the time, asked, “What’s for supper? I’m
hungry?”
Wrong question at the right time. Nicole slapped her hand on
the counter. “Zoe Burkett, I’ve been up since 4:30 a.m. and I
didn’t have time for lunch. If you want to eat, you need to learn
how to cook.”
Zoe shrugged. “Okay.” This young lady does nothing halfway.
Perfection is always her goal. Four years later, she is well on her
way to becoming the best cook in the family.
It didn’t start with the right ingredients, either. Just like with
the rest of us, it started with Mama.

Life Lines
By Linda Lariscey
SPRING THE TRAP
For you did not receive the spirit of
bondage again to fear, but you received
the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry
out, “Abba, Father."
Romans 8:15 (NKJV)
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty! What has
kept you locked down and unable to freely move and flow
in this life? God created you in His image. In Christ, you
are a son of God, a son of liberty. Whom the Son sets free
is free indeed. Invite the presence of the Holy Spirit to help
you wage war over your mind to debunk every false claim
and bogus report you have believed. The devil is the father
of lies, and the whole world lies under His power.
Beloved, we are in a season of new beginnings. Repent for
believing the lies of secular society that bind you with fear.
Ask God to forgive you for living your life based on those
fears. Forgive everyone who has spoken false words over
you that became your reality. Open your mouth and counter
deception with God’s word and what He says about you.
Pray in the Holy Spirit to build up your faith and keep yourself
in the love of God. When you feel unloved, you need a good
soak in God who is love.
Sin’s root is fear which entangles us in bondage. Set your
heart to spring from every trap that holds you back. Live in
the Spirit and walk with God, who is love. Love never brings
fear! Break every agreement with fear and enemies of the
truth and speak only God’s word over yourself. God gave
you a mouth to speak life, so use it to glorify Him.
