BURKE EMA REPORT
The Burke County Emergency Management Agency re
sponded to 125 patients’ calls during the week ending July 3.
Of those, 81 resulted in transports, including 48 to Augusta
hospitals. Thirty eight of the transports were determined to be
emergencies and 43 were non-emergent.
The agency also answered 15 fire calls during the week.
They included one outside trash/waste or dumpster fire, eight
rescues, one MVA rescue, one public service call and four
unspecified calls.
Passenger charged
with possession of meth
The Burke County Sheriff’s
Office pulled over a vehicle
driven by Gabriel Bailey on
W. Four Points Road Monday,
June 27, after a run of the li
cense plates confirmed Bailey
was wanted on active warrants.
While conducting a personal
search, deputies found an un
used needle in Bailey’s right
front pocket. Before beginning
a probable cause search of the
vehicle, the officer observed a
glass pipe, commonly used to
smoke methamphetamine and
several more needles.
As passenger Brandy Kirby
consented to a search of her
purse, she advised officers
there was a sunglass container
that “probably” contained
narcotics. Inside the container,
the BCSO found a plastic bag
containing methamphetamine,
two more needles and a small
black digital scale covered in
methamphetamine residue.
Bailey was issued a citation
for driving on a suspended
license, and was transported
to the Burke County Detention
Center on several active war
rants. Kirby was charged with
possession of methamphet
amine. The methamphetamine
weighed approximately 7.26
grams.

while incarcerated at the Burke
County Detention Center.
Burke County EMA was
called after Fitzgerald com
plained of discomfort in his
chest. He collapsed and was
slow to respond to verbal com
mands, according to a press
release.
Burke EMA arrived on
scene, began CPR. and Fitzger
ald was transported to Burke
Health for continued care but,
died about 37 minutes after the
EMA was initially called.
He was a resident of Sardis
and incarcerated on charges
of second-degree arson. The
Coroner’s Office was notified
and preliminary indications are
that Fitzgerald died of a heart
attack.

on Allen and located three .308
caliber bullets inside of the
front left pocket of his pants.
Officers found James Abraham
Robinson in a bedroom.

residence and located a silver
.44 Magnum Taurus inside the
trunk of a parked vehicle.

possession of a firearm by a
convicted felon and theft by
receiving stolen property and
possession of marijuana. Al
len was charged with theft by
receiving stolen property.
Two crash into cow
The Burke County Sheriff’s
Office responded to a call in
reference to a crash with a cow
June 28 in the area of Hwy 17
and S. Railroad St. in Midville.
A female driver stated she
was traveling south on Hwy
17 near S. Railroad St. when
a black cow entered onto the
highway causing the front left
bumper of her 2013 Freight-
liner to strike it. The collision
caused minor damage to the
left headlight and fender. An
other driver who was following
the first driver also ran over
the cow, causing slight dam
age to the 2010 Freightliner.
The owner was contacted and
removed the cow from the
roadway.
