MAN ON FIRE
...and high above on the throne was a figure like
that of a man... from what appeared to be his waist up
he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that
from there down he looked like fire; and brilliant light
surrounded him.
Ezekiel 1:22-28 (NIV)
Our God is a consuming fire! When I first heard that
description of God, I withdrew, thinking only of how angry He
must be. My heart was not pure in how I viewed our heavenly
Father. I skewed His actual image because I relied on my
intellect other than the wisdom of the Holy Spirit.
We live in a day where people call evil good and good evil.
What Scripture explicitly prohibits has become, in the eyes
of many people, including Christians, as good. Immorality
of every kind is now acceptable by many who encourage
free expression over restraint. Where does “anything goes”
take us anyway?
The world is getting cold regardless of your view on climate
change. Hard hearts abound, yet each can melt in the fire
of God’s love. What makes you hard does not make you
stronger, only bitter. Draw near to God, and God will draw
near to you. Who can resist a cozy fireplace on an icy day?
We need His fire to burn out every twisted lie we believe.
As we embrace Jesus, His fire will consume everything in
us that holds us back from the warmth of His love.

Anniversary Continued from front
facility and continuing the
exceptional care that we pro
vide Burke and surrounding
communities. But we’ve only
just begun,”
Since the acquisition, Burke
Hospital Group have focused
on adding new services to
increase access to quality
healthcare in the rural land
scape and create an exceptional
experience for those requir
ing specialty care. They have
completed over 800 orthopedic
procedures, added new operat
ing rooms and state-of-the-art
equipment, and added a car
diac catheterization unit. The
hospital also emphasized the
quality of patient care in the
emergency room by partnering
with SouthlandMD to provide
emergency care physicians that
met the professional standards
of the new company.
Rich
- wound up in the hospital for
several days.
And, always - ALWAYS -
when he sobered up, he was
heartbroken at what he had
done, at who he had hurt and
he would cry - not from Jack
Daniels but from a truly sweet
heart - and try to make things
right as best he could.
His daughter and I were pals,
teenagers who watched foot
ball games together, had pizza
with friends and talked for
hours on the phone. She was
beautiful, funny and kind. And,
she carried a deep hurt that I
couldn’t recognize because I
came from a home where alco
hol was forbidden and referred
to as “the devil’s brew.”
One Friday afternoon, short
ly after we got our driving
licenses, we were happily
headed to the mall. She stopped
at a red light in front of a liquor
store. She looked out my win
dow. I glanced her way to see
as deep sadness slip over her
pretty face.
Continued from 5
“What?” I asked.
She pointed to the liquor
store. “There’s Daddy, getting
his weekend supply.” I turned
- I’ll never forget this - to see
him emerging from the store,
pushing a hand cart loaded
to the top with seven or eight
cases of beer.
“That’ll all be gone by Sun
day morning.” Her eyes glis
tened.
He died at 51, his liver
completely destroyed. Three
months before he died, he said
to me in a moment of sobriety,
“I’ve never had a sip of liquor
or beer Hiked. I hate the taste.”
I was stunned. “Then why do
you drink?”
His eyes teared regrettfully.
“I just can’t help myself.”
I wish I could have helped
him.
