Notice is hereby given that the
Georgia Department of Transporta
tion has approved the use of and the
routing of a detour for this project.
The date of detour approval is: April
29,2022
The project proposes to replace two
bridges on SR 23 located at Brier
Creek and at Brier Creek Overflow.
The bridges will be replaced on
existing alignment and are located
approximately 2.5 north of the City
of Sardis in Burke County, Georgia.
The new bridges will be approxi
mately 375 feet long and 280 feet
long, respectively. Each of the new
bridges will consist of two 12-foot
travel lanes with 6-foot shoulders
for a 36-foot total clear width and the
roadway typical section includes two
12-foot lanes with 10-ft (4-ft paved)
wide shoulders. The estimated con
struction period is 12 months and
the detour is expected to be in place
approximately 240 days. This proj
ect includes an off-site detour with
a net detour length of 33.9 miles.
The detoured length along SR 23
is 5.5 miles (Sardis to Girard); the
proposed signed state route off-site
detour is 39.4 miles and will utilize
the following routes: SR 24 (15.5
miles), US 25 Bypass (3.3 miles),
SR 56/SR80 (3.3 miles), SR80 (4.0
miles) and SR 23 (16.6 miles).

proposed project, as approved, are
on file and are available for public in
spection at the Georgia Department
of Transportation: For information
