Hospital acquires new
surgical robotics technology
Burke Health announced the
purchase of new robotics tech
nology for use during spine
surgical procedures last week.
The Globus ExcelsiusGPS™
is a revolutionary robotic navi
gation platform system de
signed to be intuitive and
streamline the surgical work-

ducing the amount of radiation
required.
"As the only hospital in the
region to use the Globus Robot,
Burke Health is dedicated to
the safest and most efficient
spine care. Surgery will be
performed in the most tech
nological way, with enhanced
patient safety and extreme
confidence in hardware place
ment. In turn, this will enhance
care and patient outcomes for
the best opportunities moving
forward," said Justin Bundy,
M.D., an orthopedic surgeon
at Burke Health.
A spokesperson from the
hospital said two procedures
will be performed this week
utilizing the robot.
“We are extremely excited to
acquire this advanced surgical
technology for our physicians,”
stated CEO Mike Hester. “This

MERIDITH MECKEL
County Extension Agent
For the first time, Burke
County 4-H decided to put to
gether a junior food challenge
team this summer. Teams are
compromised of 2-4 students
in the 6th-8th grades. This
competition is very competi
tive and teams must advance to
state after the district competi

ed in the district competition
in August. Once advancing to
state, they began preparing for
the state competition.
On S aturday, October 17, the
food challenge team traveled to
Rock Eagle 4-H Center where
they competed against 8 other
teams. They completed an ori
entation by officials and then
started the contest. They were
given 3 mystery food items
that had to be incorporated into
their dish as well as a pantry of
items they could use to com
plete their meal. The team had
to keep up with the cost of the
items they were using as well
as nutritional facts about their
meal. After the food prepara
tion part is over, the team had
to present their dish to a panel
of judges and explain the food
groups uses, nutritional value,
cost per serving and of items,
as well as the steps they took
to prepare the food.
Upon completion of the
contest, the Burke County
4-H team placed first and took
home blue ribbons! The first

down in history! If your child
