LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Dear Editor:
The Burke County Chamber of Commerce Board of Direc
tors recently voted unanimously to endorse the passage of the
SPLOST V vote which is on the general election ballot on No
vember 8 th.
Continuing Burke County’s SPLOST will allow our munici
palities to have the necessary funding to provide infrastructure
and services to residents in our community. One of the largest
projects proposed for this next round of SPLOST funding is
$18-million to go toward providing broadband internet access to
every home in the county. Quality internet access is a huge need
in Burke County for improved education, workforce enhancement
and a better quality of life. Additional projects include recreation
improvements, law enforcement vehicles and jail expansion as
well as road, infrastructure, and other capital improvements.
It's important to remember, this is a renewal of the current
one-cent SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) and
will not increase the sales tax anyone currently pays in Burke
County. Because it’s a sales tax, everyone pays this one-cent on
anything they purchase including visitors passing thru that might
be buying gas or stopping for a meal.
We encourage you to vote “YES” to SPLOST V.
Sincerely,
Bo Blanchard, 2022 Chair
Burke County Chamber of Commerce
