878th Old Soldiers attend
9th Reunion Ga. Army National Guard
On Thursday night, November 3,2022,31 members and a few family members drove from
all over Georgia to McKinney Pond for their annual supper. The oldest member attend
ing was Brigadier General Jack Cooper who commanded the 878th Combat Engineer
Battalion from 1977 -1980. Representatives from the Battalion Staff, HSC (Augusta),
Company A (Augusta), Company B (Sandersville/Louisville), Company C (Lyons) and
Company D (Swainsboro) were in attendance. A great meal of Shrimp, Catfish, Steak
and Chicken Fingers were enjoyed by all. Old stories about their experiences since
the 878th was formed January 1,1968, was a highlight of the gathering. Chief Warrant
Officer CW4 Larry R. Cox and wife, Onnie, from Waynesboro among those attending.
The Battalion, since forming, has deployed to Grenada, Panama Canal, Somalia, Egypt
(twice), Jordan, Oman, Iraq (twice) and Afghanistan.

Judging Contest teaches stu
dents to make good decisions
when spending money on ev
eryday items, and helps them
appreciate one of Georgia’s top
crops-cotton! At the contest,
students place classes made up
of four products. This year,
the products included athlete
pants, backpacks, fast food
breakfast, and electronic tables.
Once each class is placed, stu
dents must give oral reasons
to defend their placings. Ad
ditionally, each team member
had to prepare and present a
commercial advertising cot
ton. The Junior Team placed
2nd in the contest, Lucy Lane
placed 2nd high individual
in placings and reasons and
Macy Doyen earned 1st place
high individual in commercial
presentation! Team members
included: Macie Davis, Macy
Doyen, Liam Edenfield, Lucy
Lane, Jonathan Brown, Emme
Chance, Sarah Beth Coble,
Maggie Lane, Betsy Murray,
Madison Quick, and Mallorie
