to do some special things
this season,” said Coach

The Burke County wrestling
teams wrestled in a tournament
at Lakeside. “The Rumble
in the Jungle” as it is called,
hosted sixteen teams overall.
Many of the participants had
four or five matches on the
day. While there may be some
members of the wrestling
team excluded, here are some
students who for sure placed:
Brandon Lively took second in
the 215 weight class; K.. Gross
took second in the 285 weight
class; and Skyler Brown took
second in the 132 weight class.
On December 22, the Bears
traveled to the “Rumble on the
River” tournament in North
Augusta. Brandon Lively was
the only Bear to place, getting
second in the 215 weight class.
For the Lady Bears, Shay-
lee Bachand won first place
and Alaysia Kelly took home
fourth place. There were thirty-
two teams there from all over
Georgia and South Carolina,
and the competition was very
tough.
Their next wrestling match
isn’t until January 4, as these
amazing students get about a
week of some needed rest and
relaxation.

different styles of basketball.”
Against South Aiken, Bryce
Wimberly led the team in

in these games. “This group
of guys really enjoys playing
together and the unselfishness
shows on the court,” he con

Morgan (pictured) was chosen
the second day.
The Bears will take a much-
needed break for the Christmas

Lady Bears go 1-1 at
Greenbrier tournament

The Burke County Lady
Bears basketball team traveled
to play in the Danny Black
Holiday Classic at Greenbrier.
All-in-all, the girls went 1-1,
splitting games between Mid
land Valley and Richmond
Hill.
Their first game was on
December 20 against Midland
Valley, and the Lady Bears
won convincingly by an over
all score of 56-32. “We got out
to a quick start and had a lead
of 13-5 after one quarter,” said
head coach Leslie Lawrence.
They were aggressive on the
defensive end and were able to
create turnovers that led to easy
baskets on offense. Deondra
Page led the Lady Bears, scor
ing a career high twenty-seven
points, and she helped to secure
the victory by scoring eight
straight in the fourth quarter.
Londyn Williams followed
Page with eleven points.
Their second game was on
Thursday, December 21. This
one was a low-scoring contest
in which the Bears lost. Lon
dyn Williams was responsible
for half of the Lady Bears
points, scoring fourteen, but
Burke County lost to Rich
mond Hill 28-36. “We got out
to a slow start in the second day
of this classic,” said Lawrence,
“Richmond Hill played fast,
and led 15-4 after one quarter.”
This game was almost a com
plete opposite performance to
their game the day before as
they were not able to convert
some easy baskets early in the
game. “Even though we were
able to outscore them the rest
of the contest, we still came up
short,” said Lawrence. Turn
overs were key in this game
and the Lady Bears could not
convert on turnovers created by
the defense.
The Lady Bears will now
break for Christmas, giving
their team some much needed
rest. Their next game will be
after Christmas on December
27 at the Evans Christmas
tournament.
