On Sun-lay morning at about 2
o'clock our citizens were aroused
from their slumbers by tho alarming
cry of fiiie! and starting from their
beds saw the whole sky illuminated
hy the blaze which was occasioned
by the burning of the si able and
barn of Dr. Summerlin, which was
totally destroyed. A. valuable cow,
and two line, hogs were rousted alive.
The horses were with difficulty got
ml, one o( them being badly burned
In the building was n large quantity
of corn, bacon, fodder, harness, ifce
The loss falls heavily on the Doctor
there being no insurance. A perfect
calm prevailing tho fire did not
spread, otherwise the beautiful home
of our fellow citizou would have
been in ashes.
