Wo are largely the product of the

wo should abstain from all unnatural

estimated that there nru forty thou

drunken patents annually in the

We have then, as the result of
genteel, social drinking anil maudlin
drunkenness, all the various degrees
of lunacy, idiocy anil ioeblo-miuded-
ness.
Their arc to-day hundreds ol
thousands of parents addicted to
the use of fermented and distilled
liquors who would scoru the idea
of being considered intemperate, and
yet, who are inevitably perpetuating
weakness and entailing upon chil
dren nnd grandchildren an endless
heritage of moral, mental and
phyieal misery. Nut only are
physical deformities and predisposi
tions to the taste of alcoholic liquors
transmitted, but the frenzied ex
eitemont, nervous, nnd demonical
disposition o.f inebriate parents are
often perpetuated as characteristics
iu their offspring, urging them into
crime nnd dcgruda'.ion.
It is in this direction tluvt we
must look for an explanation of the
terrible crimes that so shock the
public mind. AY hen we consider

shall wonder that there are not mote
of Unit class represented hyGuitenu,
