Mr. Editor.—Allow uie a few
lines in your paper from the Xmas
tree at Opel Ilill on the night of the
25th instant. Aa i was nearing the
place first to my eye hanging high
on the belfry were seven brilliant
letters, making the word “welcome.”
Ah! indeed this hurried me up. On
entering the house there before my
eyes stood n beautiful holly ti«*o
with branches hanging low with
presents both special and lor the
Sunday School, of every kind that
could be mentioned and the prettiest
we ever saw hung on a Xmas tree.
These presents were skilfully sc
leeted by Miss Mollie Smith and
Mrs. G. W. Mills’ who, turnsd them
over to the committee of arrange
ments, Misses. Lei (a Trussell, Nancy
Knight, V'essie Powell and Mrs.
John West, who arranged the tree
with exquisite tasto. The doll for
raffle was very lovely, was 114
inches high ami was beautifully
dressed by Miss Mollie Smith who
presented it to the schooll The
grab hag was full
Tho presents were handed down to
tho 45 scholars by Messrs Geo.
Gilmore ifc Geo Mills. A fine bible
was presented to the Superintembint i
ot\r hearts, and putting the tonic
of trust in its place. This glori
ous doctrine of trust is a wonder
fully restful one to tho overloaded.
Eur let us remind ourselves again
that it is not honest work that
usually breaks God’s children
down, Work utengthemi sinew,
promotes appetite, and induces
wltdlesome sleep. The ague fit of
worry consumes strength, disorders
the nerves, and bani.slios sweet, re
freshing slumber.
A life consecrated to Chist, that
oils all its joints with cheerful faith
and tones its blood with the iron
of its promises novel grows pale
in the choc’: or crippled in its gait.
