Cottage prayer meeting Tuesday
night was held at Mr. Allens.
Wes and Fred are working on Wes’
house, getting ready for winter.
Nearly everybody in this vicinity
took in the show parade Tuesday.
Several Coffey county people were
at Mrs. Gaffs Monday night.
Rev. Fuller, of Abbeville, preached
at Wolf Pit Sunday evening.
We understand that Rev. McGregor
sold his .50 acres to John and Ben
Colwell.
Aunt La m g Blood is still on the
sick list, but is some better at this
writing.
A gentleman from north Georgia
was at S. S. Gaffs Thursday night on
his way home from Florida.
Several of the young people were at
Mat Kettles Friday night to a taffey
pulling, but had no taffy to pull.
Clarence Hogle said lie was at Nor¬
man Dormineys on business Friday
night. Ta, ta, Clarence, that will do
to tell.
Boss Cooper and Sammy are work¬
ing down below Dorminey’s Mill for
M. Dickson and Jack Dorminey at
their saw mill.
Messrs. Carney and Henton finished
up their job of sawing Thursday and
pulled stakes for their next set west
of New Field church.
There is another boat being built in
this neighborhood. The ship yard is
at Dwight Foxworthys. Messrs. Fox¬
worthy, Dunbar and Smith are the
builders and proprietors. They will
have it done for the raise of Otter
creek when the spring rains come. We
have not learned the name or what
points it will connect. Will report
later on.

Mr. Owen is putting on an addition
to his house.
Mr. arid Mrs. Gibbs and son, John,
took dinner at Mr. Sams Sunday.
Mr. Stiles is planting fruit trees on
his 5-acre tract.
Mr. McCormick took dinner with
Mr. Sams and family last Sunday.
Mr. Kuck has bought a horse and
has rigged up a cart. Not quite so
much walking.
Peter Troup raised a fine lot of cane
on land that was broke last March
without any fertilizer.
Mr. Way is busy gathering and
storing his sweet potatoes and other
vegetables.
Mr. Gibbs has his boat almost ready
to launch in the Oemulgee river. We
do not like to loose so good a neigh¬
bor, hut we wish him success ail the

Notice to the qualified is hereby voters of the that city of
Fitzgerald, Georgia, of December, given 1897, Gil
Tuesday t he 2lst day there
will be held the annual election in and for said
city at the hereinafter named polling places at
which election there will be elected the follow¬
ing officers, to-wit: One alderman-at-large and
one alderman for each of the four wards of
the city. Two (2) members of the school board
loi each ward of the city. The polls will open
at 9 o’clock in the forenoon and close at 4
o’clock in the afternoon. The polling places
will be as follows; 1st Ward, Colony head¬
quarters; 2d Ward, Vhitchard’s store; 3d
Ward, city hall; 4th Ward, store room south¬
east corner Leo and Pine streets. Registra¬
tion books close three days before election.

Irwin County,
Under and by virtue of a power of sale con¬
tained in a mortgage executed by William
McPheeters to Matthew Barnes, dated 30th
day of March, 1897, and recorded in the office
of the clerk of the superior court of Irwin
county in book “D.” folio242 and243, the un¬
dersigned will sell at public outcry at the
court house door in said county during the le¬
gal hours of sale, to the highest bidder lor
cash, on the first Tuesday in January, 1898,
the following property, to-wit: That tract or
parcel of land lying and being in the northeast
corner of lot of land number one hundred and
ninety-six (196; containing one hundred (100)
acres, more or less, said lot of land being in
the Fourth (4) district of said county. For the
purpose of paying a certain promissory note
for the sum, of five hundred dollars, executed
and delivered by Wm McPheeters'to Mathew
Barnes on the30th day of March, 1897, arid due
on the 30th day of September, 1897, stipulating
for interest’ from date at the rate of 8 per cent,
per annum and ten per cent liquidated dam¬
ages. The total amount due ou said note be¬
ing five hundred dollars principal, twenty-six
and GG-lOn dollars interest and fifty dollars at¬
torney lees, together with the cost of this pro¬
ceeding as provided in said mortgage. A deed
to the purchaser will be made by the under¬

Notice to the qualified voters Of the city of
Fitzgerald. authority Georgia, is hereby given, that by
of city council an election is hereby
called to be held at the hereinafter designated
polling places on the Tuesday the 11th day of Jan¬
uary. 1898, for purpose of enabling the
qualified voters of said city to vote upon the
question of authorizing the city council to is¬
sue the bonds of the city in the amount of nine
thousand dollars $9,000) for following pur¬
poses, to-wit: Said bonds to be sold and the
proceeds used in settlement of the claims of
the American Tribune Soldier Colony Com¬
pany, the purchase of school houses, sites and
school furniture, and the balance remaining to
be turned over to the school board to be used
by them lor the maintepance and support of
the public schools of the city* The said bonds
to draw interest at 6 per cent, per annum, in¬
terest payable semi-annually, principal to be
paid in one payment ten places (10) years from date
of bonds. The polling will be as follows:
1st Whitchard’6 Ward, Colony headquarters; Ward, 2d Ward,
store; 3d city hall; 4th
Ward, storeroom southeast corner Lee and
Pine streets. Polls will open at9 o’clock in the
forenoon and close at 4 o’clock in the after¬
noon. The registration books for said election
will be open at City Hall from January 1 , 1898,
until three days prior to said election.

To the Superior Court of said County:
The petition of W. it. Bowen, of said county,
and It. V. Bowen and J. D. Mashburn, of Wil¬
cox county, Georgia, respectfully shows:
1. That they and such other persons as may
hereafter be associated with them desire to be
incorporated for twenty years under the cor¬
porate name and style of Bowen Telephone
Company. they
2. That desire to be incorporated as
aforesaid for the purpose of acquiring by con¬
struction or purchase, or both, and owning,
operating and maintaining within for profit a tele¬
phone Fitzgerald sytem in or said exchange Irwin county, and the for city the of
purpose of likewise acquiring, owning, oper¬
ating and maintaining a telephone line or
lines from said city to any points within said
Irwin or Wilcox counties. The office and prin¬
cipal place of business of said company will
be in said city of Fitzgerald,
3. That the capital stock of said company
will be two thousand dollars, divided into
shares of fifty dollars each, all of which has
been paid in; and that they desire the power
and privilege of increasing the same at their
option to any amount not exceeding five
thousand dollars. Stockholders to be indi¬
vidually liable to creditors of the corporation
only to the amount of tlier unpaid subscrip¬
tion for stock.
4. That they desire to be invested with the
following powers and privileges; To purchase,
erect, lease, own, control, mortgage and cou-
vey real and personal property; to loan and
borrow money; to sue and be sued; to have a
corporate seal; to make rules and by-laws for
the regulation and conduct of the business of
the corporation. And, in addition hereto, to
exercise and enjoy all other powers and priv¬
ileges usually conferred upon , like corpora¬
tions, or that may be necessary or incident to
the carrying on of the business of the corpor¬
ation, and not inconsistent with the laws of
Georgia.
Wherefore petitioners pray the granting of
an order oi the court incorporating them and
such other persons as they hereafter be asso¬
ciated with them for the time and purpose,
and with the powers and privileges aforesaid.
