Harris Probing Gasoline
Atlanta, November, 15.—Hon.
W. J. Harris of the Federal
Trade commission, and his as
sistants, who have been conduct
ingan investigation in Atlanta
regarding the alleged unreason
ably high cost of gasoline i'n
Georgia as compared with north
ern and middle western points,
has completed his probe here,
and has left for a number of
other Georgia cities where the
probe will'be continued.
Nothing will be given out as
yet regarding the findings of the
board as the hearings are of a
quasi judicial nature, and the in
formation regarding the result
will come later from Washing;
ton. a :
The investigation does not ir
volve the specifie gravity or
quality of the gasoline but simp
ly the question of whether the
dealers in Georgia, wholesale
and retail, are in any way justi
fied to charge prices so much
higher than those which the
same kind of gasoline costs in
Chicago or Louisville or Kansas
City, or instance, -
Under the federal laws there
must not be a discrepency in
rates of things sold in an in
terstate way, unless the dif
ference in freight rates or trans
portation cost between the re
spective points justifies it.
In other words, if it costs no
more for the big oil companies
to ship gasoline to Chicago than
it does to ship it to Atlanta, then
the Atlanta dealers have no
right under the federal law to
charge more than the regular
price charged in Chicaga, at the
same given time,
