Remember Your Neighbers
We want to make one last plea before Christmas
for the business interests of this town and community.
During the next few days you will all be putting the
finishing touches to your Chrismas shopping, and much
money will be passing over some one’s counters,
We ask you to remember the home merchant when
ever you can do so without actual detrimeant to yourself.
He is your neighbor, your friend. the man who has work
ed loyally with you to make this town what it is, to build
up our schools, and our churches, and to create all of the
other advantages of which we are so proud. i
His money has always been ready to help along any 3
laudable enterprise, and his voice and hands have ever
been at work in the interest ot you and yours, as well as
his.
Spend as much of your money in this towa, with our
own people, as is possible this Christmas.
We are making this last plea in behalf of the busi
ness men of this town without their knowledge, and it
goes to you without their sanction. We are duing it be
cause we think you are all a just people, and that wher
ever possible you will spend your money in such a way
that it will be of benefit to all of the people as well as
yourself.
For this is our home town, and home, you know,
will always be just what we make it.

Another Appeal to County Board of Education
The law places into your keeping certain county funds for
education and developement along educational lines. Within this
scope comes demonstration work at the school house and on the farm
The Federal Government and the State of Georgia have both made
approbriations for demonstrators in rural districts which are will
ing to co-operate with them. This money will be spent in Georgia
and Bzn Hill counvyis entitled to have her share spent for the
benefit of the farmers of the county and the Rural schools. The
Board has been appealed to heretofore and we have personaly ap
peared before the Board to secure this needed addition to the
county educational facilities. A letter received from the director
of the extension work, Mr. J. Phil Campbell at Athens assures
us that the required amount of the Government and State funds
can still be had and that they are set aside until the Board has
another opportunity to act on the matter. For the sake of the
county’s developement in which we all have an interest we trust
that the County Board of Education will vote favorable on the
proposition at its meeting.tomorrow. |

® School News ¢
As we announced in the last issue‘?
there were some exercises on Thurs
day morning in honor of Uncle Re
mus’ birthday. They opened up by
the school singing some of the good
old-fashioned darky songs. Then
Prof. Matthews gave a biography of
the life of Joel Chandler Harris.
After that Dr. Ford read some of his
works, including the Tar Baby story,
the Foxblood story, and the ore
about the “Haunted House.” They
were Burely fine and Dr. Ford did
full credit to them in his reading.
Mornings like that certainly help to
make school life more attractive.
Also Thursday was the Woman'’s
Club visiting day. Not many of
the ladies got around to the high
school.
The girls are having regular prac
tice in basket ball under the coach
ing of Miss Powell. The girls hope
to play some match games this sea
son. Maybe if the girls play a few'
games and bring home the baeon it |
will stimulate the boys to win somei
games. They certainly need some!
boosting. e |
THe boys’ basket ball arrived F ri-!
‘day and they, too, are having regu-‘l
lar practice. If only the whole|
school would turn out at the games
and support our teams as they
used to do maybe we could win
some games. The Fitz-hi spirit is
not what it was from 1908 to 1914.
If we get together and all pull, may
be we can win back the place we
held in athletics in those years. The
school did not pull very strong for
the foot ball team. Please make it
up on the basket ball team. i
Only ten days till Christmas. And 5
oxLY two more till exams start.
They start Wednesday morning. !
Tomorrow will be spent in review.
Fulton Coroner \

it also provides that he shall not
receive more than $1,500 in all per
year and he has already officiated
‘at the 150 inquests 1n 1915. |
The numberof mysterious deaths
in Atlanta for 1916 will pass all
previous years for the Christmas
weck can always be counted on to
turn up at least a dozen deaths
without witnesses, by violence,
overeating, sky-rockets and other
festive causes.
Mrs. W. T. Hammock has as

The eighth grade lost their
third game against the ninth
Thursday. Both sides Dlayed‘
’most excellent ball, the score
'was6-0. Pittman made a thir-!
ty yard sprinter for the touch
down. It was a good game only l
there was a great deal of slug
gin and the eighth grade ob
jected to numerous decisions
and the nineth grade didn’t ob
ject any. The stars for the
eight grade were Kennedy,
Vaughn and a couple others.
The pinth grade stars were
Pittman and not many others.
It might be well to notice that‘
the first time the ninth won over
the eighth it was eighteen to
nothing, second time twelyve to
nothing and last time six to
nothing.
The exams will be held in the
morning and afternoon. They will
come as on the daily schedule.
In the literary society program
