Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Dorminy
GIVEN A SILVER LOVING
CUP. ;
The news of the removal of
Mr. J. J. Dorminy and his family:
from Broxton to Fitzgerald
brings sadness and regret to
many hearts. They have during
the years of their stay in our
midst endeared themselves t&all
classes of our people. Evéry
thing that was for the good of
the town in its business interests
had the hearty support of ‘‘Capt.
Jack.” White and black alike|
feel as if they are losing a friend
on whom to lean. Noman, how
ever poor or in need but received
from him words of kindness, and
deeds of helpfulnegs. ‘
To show their appreciation of
this family and regrets at their
leaving, a reception was given
them by the people of Broxton on
Friday evening Dec. 3, 1915.
The reception wastheld in_the
building adjoining Lott, Palmer,
Co. Dry Goods Store.” The large
and spacious hall was beautifully
and. artistically fdecorated with
ferns and flowers. The Christ
mas colors of red and green were
carried out in all the festooning,

When the last course of supper
was served, Mayor Roddenberry
arose and in an impressive way
presented, in behalf of the
citizens, Mr. {and Mrs. Dorminy
with a handsome silver loving
cup. Mr. Dorminy expressed
his appreciation in tones which

'his stay here; his love for the
reople and his regrets'at leaving.
His speech was followed by
one from Mr. J. L. Palmer, in
which he paid Mr. Dormin:;r.al
very high compliment by saying
that Mr. Dorminy had lived here
14 years and had much business
dealings with both white and
colored people but so far as he
knew he had not an enemy
among either. )
After this, remarks were made
by Prof. Oscar Campbell, Rev.

Mr. Dorminy has been identi
