~Musical Club ;
The Band Boys and several citi
zens met at the Carnegie Hail last
evening to devise ways and means
to promote the musical taste of the
city and to further tne interest of
the band. About fifteen joined at
this meeting in a movement to
orgsnize a citizens movement to
give the project the necessary fi
nancial backing. It is thought
that a club of three hundred can
be had with a monthly contribu-'
tion of 50c per member to defray
the necessary expense. A direc
tor is to be employed and a juue-l
nile band and drum and fife corps‘
is to be organized among the|
smaller boys of the city, providing
musical opportunities for all sizes!
and classes. The next meeting will!
be held at the Carnegie Hall nexti
Tuesday, when permanent officersi
are to be selected and a complete
plan of organization is to be sub
mitted.
l Emanicipation Exercises

Queenland school, orator for the
day, delivered a very impressive
address suited to the occassion.
Rev. -Tucker introduced the
speakers and Dr. McMillan acted
as master of ceremony. A large

Ths Grand Jury Organized
Judge Walter George delivered‘
a strong charge.on law enforce
ment to the members of the
spacial Grand Jury this forenoon,
stressing the necessity of a fear-‘
less discharge of the duties of
the jurors in the county. The
violation of the prohibition law
and the need for a greater prc
tection to life and property, as
far as the enforcement of law
may achieve these, receiv
ed his special attention. The
Grand Jury organized with the
election of Mr. J. A. Murphy as
Foreman and G. P. Morris as
clerk. The high personel of the
speciai grand Jury speaks well
for the beginning of a better
year. *
