Judge Directs Verdict
Judge Walter George directed|
a verdict in favor of the defen-‘
dant in the case of Wheeler vs.
J..D. McLauchlin in the Superior!
court Thursday morning. 1
The case had been on trial all
day Wednesday and the argu
ments of the attorneys had been
made Thursday morning, when
the Judge directed a verdict.
Attys. Elkins and Koplin and
Merrill and Grantham of Thomas
ville represented Mr. McLauchlin.
- Judge Gober and Col. R. R.
Jackson of Atlanta are in the
city assisting Col. H. H. Dodgen
in the case of Floyd vs. the A.
B. & A.
- Capt Thos. S. Price of Douglas
spent Thursday in the city. Tom
is the same old boy of long ago
and all of his Fitzgerald friends
would love to have him and his
family move back to the city. |

John Fohl Seriously Hurt
A negro struck John Fohl the
14 year old son of Barnie Fohli
over the right eye Wednesday
evening, cutting a long gash.and
causing a slight fracture of ‘the
skull. He was brought to the!
National Drug Store where a
physician dressed the wound.
His father was phoned after and
he soon arrived to carry the boy
home. He is reported doing
nicely this morning. - The negro
was caught by Fritz Sghmitz
near the city hall and turned
over to oficer Dozier, who placcd!

The passenger train due in|
this city 10.20 p. m. from Thomas- |
ville was derailed near Urbana
Tuesday night, the engine and
all the cars were repurted off the
track. Two of the coaches turn
ed over and the passengers nonel
of whom was injured, crawled!
out of the windows. The passen
gers and crew were taken to
Tifton and ,after a short delay
reached their destination. Con
ductor H. F. Newton ‘and Engi
neer was in charge of the train.
Passengers and crew alike escap
' ed mirachlously and we congratu
late the boys on tteir good luck.
~ Mr. A. E. Jones, who was a
passenger on the train is full of
praises for the crew in cla~e
of the titan. As Mr. Jones
‘states it Capt. Newton and
Engineer Dorcugh in charge of
‘the train conducted themselves
| as cool and calm as if wrecks
iwere an everyday occurence
with them., The track was en
tirely torn up for a considerable
distance and it was only after
twenty four hours of hard work
that the trains were again able
to travel over the road.
The many friends in this city
of Mr, John W. Greer regret to
learn of the death of his motker,
which occurred at her home in
Moultrie Tuesday. Heartfelt
[symnathy is extended Mr. Greer
’and the other bereaved ones.

this afternoon for the term. The
case of Floyd vs. A. B. & A. is
being tried before a jury and
with the close of this case the
the court wiil adjourn for th
week. The eriminal term of t}-'%
court will convene next week te
dispose of the cases presented by

this morning with tea of the finest
mules ever brought to the city.
Fhe mules were purchased for the
convict camp and gives them now
twenty five mules in all for road
work. ;
