IRWIN SUPERIOR COURT.
Irwin Superior Court convened yesterday
at Irwinville. Jud:e J. H. Martin rapped for
order promply at 10 o’clock and Prof. S. O.
Swafford inviked t®e Divine blessing on the
court and jury. About fifteen minutes was con
sumed in calling and organiziog the Grand
Jury and Judge Martin consumed an bour and
fifteea minutes in charging the Jury. It was
one of the best charges we have ever listened
to, devoid of rhetorical display and pitched ona
bigh plane as to the duty and obligation of grand
jurora. We would be glad to quote him on sev
eral points but there was too much of it for this
small paper. His words did not fall on deaf
ears, for twenty-one of the county’s best men
composed the jury, organized as follows:
J. W. Haunlon, Foreman.
J. R Love, Bailiff
D. W M. Whitley, Clerk.
B. E. Wilcox. Joshua Troup,
D. H Paulk. John J. Luke.
M. D Gay. Jacob D rminey.
Henry Harper. J.J. Paulk.
Jobn Barnes, J. W, Panlk,
J A J. Nobles. @G. F. McCowan.
Wm Rogers. D T. Paulk, Sr,
E J Young. Wiley Whitley, Sr.
8. M. Whitchard. R-ason Hendegrson
R. V. Paulk.
At 11:30 the grand jury went to their room
and the civil docket as published in last week’s
Enterprise was taken up.
Several cases were transferred to the Su
perior Court of Tift and Turner counties,
and it was not until about two in the afternoon
that the first case went to trial, to-wit: South
‘ern Lumber Company vs. Winn and Gardner.

BE HONEST WITH TilY SELF.
The South Georgia friends of Col. J. H.
Estill who are supporting him for governor—
we mean those who are sincere—surely Have
not looked the situation squarely in the face.
Mr. Estill virtually admits himself that he
stands no chance of being elected. The major
ity of those who are supporting him see that he
has no chance of electipn, yet they claim that he
is entitled to their support.
Now, if Col. E~till stands no chance of
election, why is he making the race? There is
a reason for It, and every sensible man should
look the wmatter in the face and deal honestly
with himself. The reason is plain enough that:
any reasonable man can not fail to see the
point,
Every county that goes for Estill counts
AGAINST Hoke Smith, and every county tbat’
counts against Smith counts FOR Clark Howell.
The race is between Hoke Smith and Clark,
Howell, the other candidates are in the race for,.
the sole purpose of leading the honest voter
astray. E-xtill, Jim Smith, Russelland Nuunal-;,
ly know that they stand no chance of elec:ion,*
yet they all remaia in the race. -
Mr. Voter,—have you paused and asked your
honest self why? If you bave, no doubt, you
have the correct answer. ;
The answer is plain enough. They are:
running f r th~ sole purpose of defecating the:
Hon. Hoke Smith, the choice of the majority of
the masses, and to elect Clark Howell, the choice,
of the railroads, the monopoly and the ring rule .
politicians. |
Pause for a moment and see who these can
didates are attacking in their campaigo, they
are all fighting Hoke Smith, but never a one of
them as yet has raised his voice against Clark
Howell.
Is not their object plain enough? Tbhey
bave no hope of being elected, yet they remain
in the race fighting Hoke Smith.
The race is between Hoke Smith and Clark
Howell. Be honest with ycurself and take a
stand for one or the other and do not allow the
trickster politician to lead you astray.
South Georgia counties that cannot be car
ried for Howell will be placed in the Estill col
umn by the ring politicians if possible.
It takes a good round sum of money to de
fray the expenses of a candidate who makes the
race for governor., Is it reasonable to suppose
that a man will furnish this cash just for the
pleasure of making the race? Not much,
These candidates are all good business men
and have been succes~ful in life in a business
way, and to suppose that they would throw
their good dollars away withouta hope of reward
is folly.
Tbis being the case, the questions arise at
ounce, who is furnishing the money? Who ex
pects to reap the reward? Who pulled these
candidates into the race and is holding them
there?
Mr. Voter we leave the questjon for you to
answer. Be honest with yourself and answer
according to your coavictions after you have
thoroughly considered the situation.—Thomas
ville Press.

We believe Irwin county would vote a good
majority for the rotation system in this district
to remain as it is, should the opporiunity be
presented. We know she would not contend
for a change just after she furnished the
senator—OQOciila Star.
