Water Power Bill
Again Turned Down
ATLANTA, Ga, Juy 18th—Muni
cipal ownership advocates have once
again ‘“‘got it in the neck’” at the hands
of the Georgia Lawmakers, but appar
rently not discouraged they say they
will keep on fighting
Previous legislatures have turned
down their measures and they came
back this year hopeful that they had
made some headway. It appears, that
their plans have been frustrated ear
ly in the session. Two water power
bills, which they fostered, have just
received adverse reports -from sjoint
session of the House Committee on
Public Highways and General Agri
culture No, 2
. Opponents assailed the provisions
of the bills permitting use of the
State’s credit for buying or building
power plants. It was pointed out that
Georgia has a better credit than any
other State in the Union as a result
of the constitutional limitations pla
ced on its financial powers in 1887,
Speakers urged that it would be a
disastrous policy t 6 increase the in
debtedness of the State and communi
ties when the entire people are look
ing toward a reduction of taxes,
