You Should Make A Will
| The Mercantile Trust Company of
| Baltimore has issued a little booklet
| called *‘Studies in Wills"”,
| This book is not for sale, but is dis

f The making of a will is a very old
lidea. It is the effort of a man to
limpn.w his desires upon his follow
ers after he is dead.
' Sir Rider Haggard once wote a
‘Slul"\' called “Mr. Meeson’s Will’. In
it the young heroine who was ship
wrecked on a desert island allowed
a will to be tatooed across her back
on the skin in the absence of paper
or parchment. When she returned
to civilazation she learned that the
will required the filing of the original
document in court. Touched by the
spectacle of beauty in distress, how
ever, the registrar allowed a photo
graph of the will to be filed and the
girl went happily away.

THE HAPPY MEDIUM—IN SPENDING
{ Dear Miss Flo—
' Which wife helps her husband most
—the one who saves and looks shab
by, or the one who spends and looks
,smart. My husband doesn’t earn
much( and it has been necessary for
me to sacrifice clothes, good times,
and even necessities, in order to save
a cent, Naturally I present anything
’but a well-groomed appearance. On
the other hand, I have a sister whn is
)a]ways dressed beautifully, even
‘though her husband doesn’t earn any
‘more than my husband. They don’t
however save any money. My sister
says that my shabby appearence
ruins my husband’s chances ‘or suc
cess, whereas, her appearence 15 an
asset to her husband. May I have
your opinion in the matter.
M. F.
w* %k ok
Perhaps there is no more difficult
problem to be solved by a woman
whose husband’s income is very small,
than the question of just how much
she is justified in spending on clothes
and personal requirements. Most
married women feel that since they
have no way of earning moneyy the
only way in which they can be of any
assistance to their husbands is by sav
ing. That is why many wives who are
ambitious for their husband’s success
become actually penurious, and cut
every expense to the bone.
Parsimony and extravagence are
equally to be condemned. If one
must lean to one side or the other
however, it is perhaps better to be
too stingy than too liberal, for the
person who is too stingy doesn’t harm

{ heir, thus bringing his dynasty to a

; When he died the Romans ack
|nowledged the genuineness of the
will, but contented themselves with
“seizing, by virtue of the document,
as much of the private fortune of the
testator as they could lay hands on.”
The law in regard to wills is pretty
thoroughly fixed, but it takes a law
ver to understand it.
It behooves every one to cons<ult
an attorney and make his will and
make it law proof. It is a good plan
to name a Trust Company as one’s
executor because such a company is
experienced and cannot die. This plan
avoids much unnecessary litigation
and saves the legatee from danzer
through unscrupulous stock promo
ters.
Every one should make a will and
put his property in the hands of a
Trust Company to administer. Then
there would be less unnecessary litiga
|tion in regard to various testaments.
(anyone but himself.
| There should be, however, a happy

‘else. Those who achieve it are in

You buy your wife a $1500.00 car. I buy mine a WHIPPET SIX

receive congratulations on their cars. Then the girls all spy my
wife's fine Diamond. Who makes the Bigger impression? Whose

And after 12 months, the “thrill” of both cars is largely gone.
Depreciation has cost you just twice what it cost us. And we have
