The rains fail ed to come last year, and the re sult is, that the grain and hay crops are a complete failure. All that could do so have left that part of the state that the drought covered, but some were not able to leave, and the consequences are that they ate starving to death/ Relief has been asked for, and the South with her liberal spirit, and especially Georgia, is responding nobly to the caU. The earth had no moisture in it, and the seed that were plant ed are still in the ground. t The old year is gone and the New Year is ushered in. The mis takes that we made during the old year caanot be remedied, but we can improve the future by seeing the mistakes of the past. We should all be thankful for our past lives, if it has been full of errors, we should hope that the future will be brighter and better, and while we are living in this hope, mh should use our best efforts to make it so. We say to all, turn over anew leaf, and let it not be blotted with broken resolutions. The new year came covered with a mantle of purity, *nd we should strive to keep it so until the even ing of its golden sunset.
