L _ „ CROP PROSPECTB. • ———— The recent rains have been s blessing to our people. Before the rains came the farmers had good trine to clean their crops and ®hey were in good condition to.grow when the seasons did come. The wheat crop was much better than was ever expected, and the corn rop if no disaster overtakes it will be abundant. Then* is more com plantfc& tbi* year than is anally planted, and the abundant •top promised will be tin* cause of more fat hogs than usual this year, and the old time hog and hominy will be plentiful. Cotton is now growing nicely, and will make alarge yield unless something not now known happens to it. Our farmers are getting more on the diversified crop line, and when this is fully established and our cotton crop gets to be a aurpluc the hard times will disajv |>ear and prosperity and plenty will reign supreme. May the day haste when this will Ik* a reality, and the we wilt all Ire happy and die aggravating currency question will then la* settled. - * I Silver Meeting, •t “* THE DEMOCRATS OF MADI SON CQUNTY STJND A STRONG DELEGA TION. In response to a call recently made, the people met at the court house last Saturday to elect dele gate* to the ailver convention which met at Griffin yesterday. The following delegate* were se lected: David W Meadow, R H Kinnebrew, C L Montgomery and J R William*. A committee wa* appointed to appointed to draft resolution, and the following were the resolutions reported and adopted, which shows that old Madison, the “free state” is squarely on the demo cratic platform, favoring both tnetals: resolutions,' enacted under nw''constitution 6f the United States, provided for the free and unlimited coinage of boih gold and silver, ami both metal* were made legal tender for all debts, und they so remained for nearly one hundred years, and were tlie basis of our great prosper ity, eN>*tb>g until reeentlv, and whereas, at the dictation of bond holders, capitalist* and other c nin binations, our congress .has by legislation destroyed the parity ex isting between gold and silver us money metals and endeavoring through the saino channel to fas ten upon the people of this coun try a single gold standard which will utterly destroy our prosper ity, because it mitigates against tlie welfare of so large a number of our fellow citizens. Therefore Ire it resolved by the jieople of Madison county in mass meeting assembled: 1. That we greatly deplore the course persueo by congress in demonitizing silver, yet we declare qur confidence in the unabated patriotism of the people of these i United Stute*. 2. That we stand ready and da tarmined to werk with ail dili gence for the obliteration of the unjust law now in force in our .country, which roba labor of legit imate profit* and prostrate* agri culture." 15, That we are unalterably op posed to the single gold standard or to the single silver standard, but favor ‘the immediate, free and dnlihiited coinage of both silver unit gpld ou a parity, regardless of the acta n of any foreign na tion. ft < 4. That we renew our allegiance to the great principles of democ racy as set forth in the national democratic platform of 1892, and endorsed by the people at the pells ip the Nationul election following, and as interpreted by TToo, A 0 lie. oti, Hon.
