THE MONITOR, Puxlishis Bviry FaiDAY. ONE DOLLAR A YEAR. Mtstley & McGowan. Eds. and Props, •T’he wifeof Hev. Dewitt Tal ola’dge -died on last Monday, Chin* will now have a little skirmish with England, over the massacre of neveral English mis sionaries in that, country recently. fdf United States senator from Kentucky, the state that straddled the financial issue, is wilining with ease. Buffalo Bill with his wild weal ihow will be ia Atlanta during the exposition this fall. A number of new features will be added to this already great show. Bicycle and bloomers seem to W taking the day We do not ob ject to ladio* riding bicycler, but do riot think they ought to do so in ldoomsrs. ft is going toward the liew woman a Uitle too fast for us. . -■ - -mm’ —- Missouri democrats have held a .convention on the money ques tion, elected anew executive com mittee a majority of whom are for silver, aad missed resolutions in which they declare for the free and utdimiud coinage of silver at jtbe ration <p 10 to 1. Texas, also, ibas fallen Into line and passed sim ilar resoliniona. One bv one the ftates are falling into line. —*r The war in Cuba isSdill going on and from what we cah gather from |hc reports sent ouV the! Cuban* are winning in evervUmt tle, and are having nccossiodV to their ranks every day, Mexiop, we sfee is talking about annexing the Island to her territory and if aha does the United States will loose thereby. This island is at our door and we think should be annexed to the United Statoe. ' •... We reotived the annual catalogue p$ t the Qesrgik Normal and Industrial gghpol at Milledge villa. Th'i catalogue beautifully illustrates "the buildings of this iuatitutinn and givos snipe valu* able information in regard to the same. It further shows that the large attendance ia increasing. Thir faculty is one of the hast in tho south and the school is first class and in our opinion, you conln do ua better than to send your daugh ter ta this school. WhU# the ladies of Atlanta are getting up a petition to the Oov ernar for the commutation of the death sentence to imprisonment for life for Mrs. Nobles, who killed,or hifsd her husband kill ed, soma time ago, the {citizens of Twiggs county, the scene of .the murder, are holding mass meeting and passing resolutions against •uoh, action. These people claim that the commutation of this sen tence would tend to cause riot and bloodshed in their county. It seems to us that these know more the oase than any others, ancf'thwi.the verdict of a "jury in that oouatylhwt4sL be respected, especially so the sentiments of the people eo ly. We thought when this move ment in Atlanta flret started, and think so vet, that these good ladies are misplacing their sympathy. MtCH INTEREST MVNI - There is much interested man ifested in the meeting that is now in progress at the Baptist church hers, and several have joined {both by letter and experience, while some have placed themselves un der the watch care of the church. k*rge congregations turned out to each service, and we hope that mleh good will be do^e. THE SPEAKING SATURDAY . A large crowd assembled in the the Baptist church grove on last Saturday to listen to an* address from State School Commissioner Glenn, who came to apeak in the iutereat of the public school sys tem of Georgia. He spoke to the point, currying favors from no source, but con demning that which he thought was wrong. His speech was listen ed to very attentively, and we hope much goad will come from it. He very frankly told the teachers that if they intended to teach school while he was in office, that they bad lo know something, and made no excuse for the last exami nation papers being so iong. , ♦x,,-. the good la dies proceeded to sprfllcf a magni ficent basket dinner, and all en joyed themselves eating of the good things spread before them until they were filled. Everybody enjoyed the address by Commissioner Glean, the din ner and a day of recreation. MALICIOUS MISCHIEF. One night last week some party or parlies, want, into A S John son’s yard and deliberately turn ed the llowera out of the pots onto the ground, setting the pots back nicoly in their proper place. They then went to some Moon vines that Mrs. Johnson had growing around the piazza for a shade and pulled them up by the roots. Now we do not know who those parties w.re, but it was a piece of malicious mischief of the most contempti ble kind, and if the parties could be caught, they should be dealt with.
