-Qccsnox. —Please give ms the best
manure fur cabbages. Is it too late to
sot out plauls timing mouth?
Akswur.—Cabbages are very gross
feeders, ami if Rood heads are expected
the manure must not be spared. The
best preparation for the land is well'de
•omp ed lot manure heavily broadcast
itid plowed ill or a green crop treated
ia the same way. Nothing better than
cow peas, turned under. The land
should be deeply plowod, and the fol
lowing fertilizer applied iu the rows at
the rate of about 431 to 500 pounds to
the a n*,'and thoroughly mixed With
the suil before the plants are put in, fbo
pounds acid phosphate, 250 p muds mu
riate potash. 1500 ponuds nitrate soda,
75 pounds c; ttonseed m' i al. The plants
may be set- at any time after danger of
a freeze lias passed, and even iu dry
weatliev, ii the p.wantiou is observed
to plniit the roots in damp earth, covet
with dry, and thou protect the plaut
fee.- a day or_.t\Vo -from the direct rays
of the sun. For early fall cabbage
a good plan is to sot the plants
on laud on which a crop of early pota
toes was grown. Sow the seeds thinly '
in a plant bed the last of May or first of
June After the potatoes are dug, thor
oughly plow and pulverize the laud,
then open the furrows 3 foot apart, put
in the fortil zor, about 500 ponuds to the
acre, aud cover by throwing on two fur
rows. As soon as the plants are ready,
smooth off the beds aud set the cab
bages in deeply, pressing the soil firmly
to the routs of each plant, and leaving
only the top loaves exposed.—State Ag

Question’. —Ilmv can I pet rid of
nudes? They arc quite troublesome iu
my garden, and 1 Have tried trapping
them without success, , , l|
Answer. — Place iu tlioir runs small
pieces of meat poisoned with strychnine.
Anutlier plan is to inject into their
runs, every 10 or 12 foot, about a gill of
liquid bisulphide of carbon, the fumes
-• from which may eithor kill the moles
or drive them away. Don’t go near
any fire of any kind with the bisulphide,
ns it is exceedingly mflamable.—State
