During a recent election in
Brooklyn a young lady voter
entered the Presbyterian church
on Foster Avenue, the voting
place of the second district, the
judge informed her that she
was in the wrong booth, that
she would have to vote in a
nearby barbershop, “Why you
can’t expect a lad y to go into
a place where men are being
shaved" she said indignantly,
“I’ll just vote here and you can
send it oyer." When informed
by the judge that this was im
possible, she decided she “just
wouldn’t vote." This young
lady was looking for polls but
not barber poles.

HEALTH LAWS PASSED
AND NOT PASSED
The Georgia State Board of Health
did not succeed in getting through the
recent legislature all the laws it de
sired, hut feels encouraged that it did
get unanimous favorable report from
the committees to which was'referred
the various hills for their deliberation
and careful consideration.
We did hope to get through our
School Sanitation and \ital Statisti
cal amendments, our amendments to
the Ellis Health Law, our Law against
advertising of patent medicines and,
above all, our law regulating the issu
ing of Marriage License. This law
regulating the issuing of Marriage Li
cense, we think, is one of'the most
Important that has been offered: . It
jk being urged as a safeguard to out
■ iris against infection- of Venereal
diseases from their future husbands.
Moo that the future generations may
nave the right to be bora healthy and
free from being born blind" from gon
orrhoea, or deformed from syphilis.
Not taking into consideration the thou
sands of children prematurely born
from this infection.
The law that we advocate requires
the prospective husband and father
to present to the Ordinary, when he
makes application for hi-s marriage li
cense, a certificate from a reputable
physician that he is free from Vene
real Disease. What responsible man
can object to this? What argument
can any one advance against such a
law? What manner of man would
one be who would come out openly
and oppose the passage of a law that
will make it safe for his daughter to
marry? Who would oppose the abo
lition of 65% of all abdominal opera
tions oa the women of our country?
Who would object to preventing the
70 f- of Venereally infected women of
our country who have contracted syph
ilis from their husbands being freed
m this likelihood to a large extent?
The thousands upon thousands of un
born babies hold out their innocent
and helpless hands to us. Who will
take upon himself or herself the re
sponsibility of the cry of the utiborn
soui that will perish from syphilis.
Who will assume the responsibility of
45% of the blindness found in our
iStute Academy for the Blind when it
can, and could have been prevented?
If you favor a-healthy nation, would
you not advocate this law that un
derwrites the freedom from venerea!
infection to our girls? Won’t you urge
u? Please do.
