MORE INDICATIONS OF OIL IN
CARNESVILLE
The well of Mr G. R. Banks contin
ues to flow oil more and more. How
ever, oil now flowing is more crude
form than that which first appeared
A geologist ■who was in Carnesvil e
last week states that he never saw
taetter indications of oil in large quar.
tities He examined the oil in Steph
ens Creek spring and the spring on
Tanyard branch and says there is no
doubt but what the oil is of a fine
quality and firmly believes that a
drill will prove that oil is in abund
ance in and around Carnesville.
Mr H. H. Blair, of Louisville, Ken
tucky, is in Carnesville getting leasts
I Mr Biair erepresents a large oil bus; -
: ness for many years. In all h:s ex
perience he says he has never found
better indications for an oil field
than here He has discovered oil
fields in Kentucy andk other places
I and says that this section is on a
| parallel with the fields of Kentucky
< being about the same d’Siance from
the Blue Ridge Mountains and in a
hilly country
To arepresentalive of The Herald
Mr Blair cited many instances where
large fields have been deveiope.;
where several geologists had predict
ed that no oil in large quantities
would be found. The oil is here and
nothing but a drill will teli how macr.
The company Mr Blair represents in
tends to start work as soon as enou
leases are secured.
| A well on the Roach place at Hun
ters Creek was abandoned aoout
thirty-five years ago because of the
oily taste of the water. This place is
| about seven of eight miles from
Carnesviile and a few citizens made
a trip to investigate the well Monday (
; They report that the water is simhu. ,
‘to the tasts of the Banks weJ. 1 hey
| also found some bottom land where
there was some oily substance and
other indications.
I Mr G. R. Banks has received some
flattering offers for his house and lot
One man offered him $25,000 cash
| last week and he states that he has
: been offered much, more than this.
! Col. Lem Banks, of Memphis, ienu.,
jwho has secured leases on several
thousand acres of land in and around
Carnesviile is expected here n a few
days. Word received from him is
that analysis made since he left shows
f he oil to be of fine qual ty
