HOW TO DIG AND CAKE FOR
SWEET POTATOE-
First, r.weet potatoes sould nut be
i handled roughly, as the. least bruise

I vides an opportunity! for the entrance
|of decay germs. S< eo.nd, it is de
sirable that the soil be comparatively
| dry at the time of digging, and warm,
dear weather is best for the proper
handling of the crop.
A regular turn plow with the
moldboard removed to avoid covering
the potatoes as they are. thrown out
is often used in digging the crop.
This implement is usually provided
with coulters on the imam which cut
the vinos ahead ol toe plow'. How
ever, many growers who most harvest
large acr> ages in the crop, use spe< ial
potato diggers, which are provided
with two rolling coulters that cut the
vines on each side of the hill, and
and iron rods projecting from the
■ moldboard which free the potatoes
•from the soil
The potatoes should be allowed to
dry, and then gathered directly from
the row into padded baskets and
hauled to the curing and storage
plant. It. ;s a bad idea to throw sev
eral rows of potatoes to gether, as
they become bruised They •■mould
not be exposed to 'be uu long and
should not be left out over night.
