E. church and there the funeral services were conducted by his pastor Rev. A. M. Danielsville, Georgia, Friday, Jan 26, 1923 MADISON COUNTY CONTEST The rules and events foi Madison County High School contests are: EVENTS: For Keys. 300 yard dash (One boy from each school) 220 yard dash (One boy from each school) Four corner relay (Four boys from each school) The estimated distance for this is 1400 yards. Running broad jump (One boy from each school) Running high jump (One boy from each school) Reclaimer (One boy from each school) Ready writers contest (One boy from each school) Arithmetic (One bov from each school) For Girls: | Basket ball throw (One girl from each school) Potato iace (One girl from each school) Running and catching (One girl from each school.) Gills relay ( Four girls from each school) Reading (One girl from each school) Ready writers contest (One irirl from each school.) Arithmetic (One giu’l from each school) High school spelling (One girl or one boy from each school) 100 yard and 220 yard dashes, ail contestants start at. line together the first covering wins first place, ■tscotid covering wins second and third of course, third p!ae<\ Four corner relay, four boys are stationed at the respective four cor ners, one at each corner, represent ing his school, all then starting who are at the beginning point of square going to the second comer where he gives a token to his teammatt at that corner, who in turn goes to next and on until they have made the complete round, the first out winning first, second next and third last place which is third. Running broad .jump, each boy has three trials, the one jumping the greatest distance wins i .rst p.ace and |so on. Running high jump same as broad jump. Relay race for girls, 50 yards. 4 girls from each school, hirst girl starts running and will go fifty yards where she will receive token from teammate who in turn will run back this fifty yards, there giving token to third girl who goes oven the same distance to the fourth girl, who in turn completes the race by running fifty yards back to the original start ing point. Declamations limited to five min. utes. Ready w l .iters contest limited to ninety minutes, one boy and one girl. Observe the following: Each contestant shall provide letter size stationery (8 1..2 X 11 in.) and the essays must be written in ink on one side of paper. There must be no com munication between contestants noi se of notes, books or printed matter. The committee will allow ninety minutes as stated above. Four hand red words will be allowed. The com mittee will judge the papers as to relative excellence in organization, interest and composition, and award Ist, 2nd and 3rd places. Jhe papei winning first place shall be mailed to the state chairman, Prof. Stewart, with name of pupil, county, school, and post office written thereon. The state chairman v. ill iatet award a state prize for the best essay in the county contest. Arithmetic, one bov and one girl Milne’s Standard Arithmetic wili be ,|, first 203 ps ; .-: included. Spe! in g will be. written, out hundred words being dictated from Sandwich and Bacon High School Speller. Pen and ink will be used. Basket Ball throw for girls: Draw a circle six feet in diameter on the on the ground. In throwing contestant shall not. touch outside circle with any part of the body until the hall has struck the ground; she must leave from the rear half of the circle. Pass the tape through the center of the circle, but measuring the distance from edge of circle whore ball first struck the ground. If any part of the body touches outside the circle the tance made shall not be recorded. In making the round arm throw only one hand shall be used. The ball may he started from any position and thrown in any manner of style. Three trials will be alloud. Potato race At one end of a line 20 yards long, place a basket containing three potatoes. Draw three two foot circles at intervals of five yards along this line, the nearest one being five yards from the basket. The circle nearet to starting line, runs to basket gets pototoe, and places it in circle No. 1. She then gets another one and places it in circle No. 2, and then places the third potato in circle No. 3 passing between basket and starting line each time. She then runs to a starting line, and returns and places potato No. 1 in the basket, then No. 2 and No. 3, passing around the basket each time. She then finishes in a dash across the starting line only one trial is allowed. Running and catching: At a dis ; lance 30 ft. from the starting line and parallel to it, stretch a cord 10 ] ft. from the ground. On the signal j the girl runs from the starting line and tosses a basket ball over the cord catches it and runs back to tPe start ing line. Three such trips are made, finishing at the starting line. In case of failure to catch the ball, it must be secured, tossed over the cord (either direction) and caught before continueing the run. One trial al lowed. Reading, Ready writers contest and Arithmetic, same as for boys. Basketball game between two best teams in county, the winner being the Champion of Madison County, thereby receiving banner, will be a great feauve in the contest. A loving cup will be given to tbt high school in the county that fas made the greatest number of points in the contests, both literary am athletic, this cup to be held one year At each yearly contest the cup wil ! be carried to the contest, the team winning the greatest number of pont? will he holder of that cup for one. year. Shculd any team or school win this cup for three respective year then the cup goes to’ said school as a permanent trophy. It is: desired that ail schools enter either grammar school contests — or high school — both where possible Select contestants as soon as. possible and mail list to Superinten dant of Schools by March 25th.
