A PLEA FOR TEACHERS
v\ithout vision the people perish.’’
\V ithout education there can be I‘tt’e
vision. Of education it may be said
that “:t is twice bla:t; it bbjsse'h
him that gives and hi n that takas.”
It veil] be greatly worth the effort if
we can impress thi- thought upon the
young manhood and womanhood of
the Nation and redirect their inter
est and patriotic real to the Mea of
making- a proper contribution to ed
ucational work. It is regrettable that
=o few young men and women, equip
ped for such service, are nowaday*
disposer! to give their time and talent
to teaching. Education needs their
young eagerness, ;;ol and enthusi
asm.
There i- no school of di-'eiplire
more effective than that in which the
teacher goes to school. Wo could do
no greater service than by convinc
ing tbo-e vourp men and women v.bo
have enjoyed, educational opportuni
ties that they owe a reasonable shave
c f their time and energies to teaching
The strength and security of the
Nation will always rest in the intelli
gent body of its people. Our educa
tion implant conceptions of
public duty and i rate obligations
bi’oed enough to cov-age the prob-
Irrns of a greatly distraught world.
Id 0: e than anything else, me and
| women need the capacity to see with
j clear we and to contemplate with
| open, unprejudiced”mind the issues of
j these rinvis- Only through a properly

SALE OF GASOLENE
j
!- According to the records in the
state department >.f agricullure,
3 87,009 gallons of gaaolire we <- con
sumed in Madison county during
1922. This i the amount which was
inspected at tank stations by the local
oil inspector anil on which the state
inspection tax of one-half cent per
gallon was collected. Of this a
mount, approximately four-fifths was
turned into the state treasury, the in
spection work being cl ore on a piece
work basis, and the inspectors over
the state getting only a srna 1 part of
the total amount paid for them work
by the oil compairi:^.
In this re pect, it .is interesting 1 >
note that tbf re wa.-. a diiTcrtnce c-f
8,359,838 gailors between the amount
of gasoline imported, and the amount
upon which the state road tax r ,f one

Which the one-cent tax was hot paid.
The company daiaiat that it is not
due to pay this thx, inasmuch as the

i The . ecc-H.. i;y '"or continuing th s
