Much of the success and pleasure of the evening was due to the excellent manner in. which the banquet was prepared. The decorations of yellow by the pro fuse arrangement of daffodils, to gether with the palms and ferns add ed much to the beauty and enjoyment of the occasion, which was also the work of the Woman’s Club. A large part of the membership of* about eighty were present, together with a number of invited guests from the neighboring towns. A spirit of fellowship and good feeling pervaded the whole evening. A number of short addresses add ed interest to the. occasion, while ma ny suggestions for the coming year were given. Plans for the encouragement of this year’s cotton crop, which is es sential to prosperity of this sec tion and town as well, was discussed. That cotton can be raised success fully war, demonstrated the past year by the wonderful success ac complished by one of the members, Mr. J. K. Ghulston. This was referr ed to by a number of the speakers, showing that the hist way to con vince people of the merits of a fact b* by actual demon/.ration*;. By careful records it was showed that Mr. Gholvton cleat ed about $. r ou to the plow with fifty or more plows. He was recently invited to Hartwe 1 by the Ki-wanis Club and to other places to tell jurt how it was. done. He and others in thin section has proven that there is money in rais ing cotton under present condi tions. Good roads (or rather bid roads) came in for a good purt of the dis cussion. The fact that the a'titude of our county i.: helping to hold inf the completion of two of the main highways through this section, was referred to as a source of regret. It was the unanimous feeling of the men present that the money Mould he forthcoming to complete the Bankhead and Calhoun highways in connection with the State and Na tional aid. These roads once put in to good shape means that the state and national governments would as sume the upkeep of about forty miles of our main roads, relieving the county of th's great expense. This county is losing thousands of dollars each year by not matching rr A.2SC NOTICE I WILL BE AT THE FOLLOWING PLACES ON THE DATES NAMED BF.LOW FOX THE PURPOSE OF RECEIVING TAX RF.TURNS FOR THE YEAR 192 4 SFCONDROUND COMM! !
