COTTON DEMONSTRATION FARMS IN MADISON COUNTY St. Matthews, S. C. June 25, 1924 . To the Farmers of Madison County: The American Cotton A-sociation Boil Weevil Control Campaign has established cotton demonstration farms, of five to eight acres each, in Madison County, for improved cul tural and wtevil control methods. The literature and coopera tion of the Association are available to every cotton grower who makes application for same to the Ameri can Cotton Association, St. Mat thews, S. C. No additional appli cations can be accepted under Con test- No. 1 for frto poisons, but all applications for enrollment under Contest Nt>.. 2 will be acicpted and free literature on cultural and wee vil poison methods will be promptly distributed . V/stcK The Madison County Cotton Demonstration Farina The cotton growers of Madison County are urged to visit, the cot ton demonstation farms in their re spective communities for weevil control this season which are to be operated by the farmers named above Liquid poisons and dry calcium ar senate will be used throughout the season. It is as impossible for us to say, now, what the road of the future is to be, as it was impossible for us to say, five yeans ago, whit the radio broadcast of to-day would be. An inventor v/ruts to interest can itrl to making a roadway of steel. It will cost, if built, not thousands, but several hundred of thousands of dollars per mile. Road builders laugh Tht public laughs. We all laugh. Why pay thrto hundred thousand dollars a mile for reads when' we car* get them for a few thousands? Twenty yens ago the idea of pay ing twenty-five thousme. dollars a mile for road 'was laughed at! This steel idea may be all wrong. It half n’t Keen tried. It'may be chim erical in the extreme. Laughter doesn't prove anything except the “■stand-pat-mind” of the laugher. Maybe steel roads at thret hundred thousand dollars a mils are impractical.
