XXX I LOCAL I HAPPENING^ Misses Jessie Neal Strange, Marie Barrow and Susie Colquitt motored *o Athens on Saturday; Miss Col quit remained over for the week-end with her mother. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Hardman are the proud parents of a'line boy which an-ived on last Friday, March 13. He is to be called Alvin Jr. Mr. Hope Griffeth was home from the University for the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Ed "Carlton Griffeth were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs G. 0. Griffeth on last Sunday. Mr. A. C. Daniel and son were here Friday . Mrs. Wyatt Bullock whs has been visiting relatives ih Jefferson for the past two months returned home Sun day. Miss Julia Baker of State Norma.' School was with hpmefolks Saturday and Sunday. Mr. C. E. McElroy, one of our prosperous vvas in town' Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. John M. David were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Claud Lan ders Sunday. The Woman’s Missionary Society of the Baptist church held its reg ular monthly meeting at the church on Wednesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Graham, who have been in Athens for the past several months will, we understand, return here next week and be at home with Mrs. Georgia Gordon. We welcome there useful and influen tial citizens back to our town. Mr. Graham will again engage in farm ing. Mr. and Mrs.. J. H. Boggs of Jefffferson with their son, Clyde, vis ited relatives here Sunday. The University boys are expected home this week for 10 days Spring holidays. Mesdames J. H. Boggs, W S San ders, ty E. Adams and Miss Reba Thompson^were in Aihtens Saturday. Mrs. Adams visited her brother at St. Marys Hospital, who has been quite sick. A delightful event on last Friday evening was the B. Y. P. U. Socoal for the Juniors at the home of Mr}, and Mrs. G. M. David, Quite a number were present and a very de lightful evening was spent. Deli cious cream and cake was served. GREAT MEETING Every sermon being preached at the Methodist; revival by Rev. N>. G. Shankle pastor of Elberton First church is full of gospel truth and feeds the hungry soul of man. We would that each man, woman and cr 'dd dn our community could hear every word uttered and get these val uable truths so beautifully but plain sPoken. They coma from a man who has personal experiences with and loves them—who knows God and loves Him. Brother Shankle was raised near us, at Commerce, Ga., and has been * n the ministry for 25 years. We are * er y glad to have him here. SECOND QUARTERLY MEETING The Second Quarterly meeting of the Methodist church will be held at Gordon Chapel on Saturday, Mch 21. Let all who can possibly ar range, go . Mr. Fred Bond of Royston has been in the Clerk’s office this week, assisting in some work during the absence of Mr. Eugene Huff who has been indisposed with Flu. Col, C. E. Adams was at Ft. La mar, Liberty Methodist church, on Sunday morning and delivered a very interesting and timely lecture in behalf of the church. Rev. John A. Simpson will fill his regular appointment at the Presbyteritn church Sunday morn ing and evening. The Recital given on last Friday evening by Miss Marie Barrow, our most efficient music teacher, was well attended and thoroughly en joyed. Much praise is due Miss Barrow for her splendid selections and the wonderful work she has ac complished in the short time she has been with us. Each number render ed showed thought and work on her part as wdl as the pupil. COLBERT WOMAN’S CLUB Mrs. J. L. Williams was hostess to the Colbert Woman’s Club at the March meeting. Her home was very gay with many lovely spring flower. As the guests arrived they were met at the door by the histess who gave each one a flower from a vari-colo*'- ed bouquet. These flowers were used later in Inding partners for a con test. Mrs. Hampton presided, and Mr* J. E. Kidd opened the meeting by reading the Devotional. During the business hour many things of importance were discussed. Following the business hour the meeting was turned over to the hos tess who had ready an interesting contest. Mrs. Wilma Gaulding and Miss Louise McLeroy won the priae given in the contest. The hostess then served a delicious salad course and tea). The meeting then adjourned to meet with Mrs. W. L. After scripture reading, Gen. 10th chapter, and prayer by the president Mrs. J. F. L. Bonds, the meeting was called into a business session. Personal service committee reported 6 trays, 7 bunches of flowers and 21 visits to the sack. —Committee.
