Mr. and Mrs. Roy Williams spent the week-end with relatives in Elbert Ciounty. Mrs. W. F. Carithers spent the week-end with Miss Willie Carithers Mr. and Mrs. Hubert McWhirter left Sunday for their home in Atlan ta after visiting relatives here. . Clean-up week is being observed this week, and a warfare is being waged on dirt and unsightly places.. All the people are co-operating and it is expected that the end of the week will find quite an improvement inthe looks of our town. Mrs. Fannie Cooper had as her guests for the week-end, Mr. Jim Gooper of Atlanta, Mrs. Nancy Gooper of Winder, Mrs. Flanagan and sen of Athens, Mrs. Haralson, Mr. 0. D. Cooper, Mr. George Cooper and Mr. Paul Haralson of Carlton. Mesdames A. M. Wilkins and E. W. Johnson spent Thursday with Mrs. Wilkins sister at Bowman. After a pleasant visit to Comer relatives, Mrs. Fannie Power return ed to Atlanta Saturday. Davis Chapter, O. E. S. met Fri day afternoon for the regular month ly meeting. Mrs. L. L. Mason and little daughter, Margaret, of Atlanta are guests of Dr. and Mrs. Hinton. Mrs. Russell Davison visited rel atives at The Glade” last week-end. Mr. Jim Cooper of Atlanta spent last week-end with his mother, Mrs Fannie Cooper. Dr. T. W. A.yers of Hwahgbein, China, who speaks at the Baptist church here next Thursday evening, will be guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. b. Ayers while in Comer. Mrs. W. C. Miss Lucy Thornton of Athens is visiting her sister, Mrs. C. H. Meadow this week. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Turner cel ebrated their first anniversary on last Monday. Those invited were Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Scarborough was guest of Master Thomas Hitchcock Power of Elberton Sunday on his birthday. COMER WOMAN'S CLUB The Comer Woman’s Club met yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. T. C. Davison with Mrs. T. 0. Daviison, Mrs. R. C. Davison and Mrs. F. C. Whelchel joint hostesses. Artistic and dainty dec orations of crab apple blossoms were used. With Mrs. C. H. Barnes, president, in the chair, the meeting was opened with the Reading of Club Litany led by Mrs. A. C. Sorrells. Song—Ameri a The Beautiful. Interesting repoits from a numbed of Departments were heard. Mrs. Barnes, re-electc.l president declined the nomination and it is a source of regret to the Club that she can no longer serve. The other officer; nominated were: Mrs.' A. O. Son-ells, Lit vice president; Mrs. . T. EberharJt, 2nd vice president; ’lrs. J. A. Sims, Secretary; and Mrs. C. C. Whelchel Treasurer. The hostesses served a delicious salad course with coffee. Mrs. Pierce Maxey of Maxeys was a welcome visitor at this time. FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MR. J. W. COOPER HELD SUNDAY Funeral Services for Mr. J. W. Cooper were held at Baptist church Sunday afternoon with Rev. A. E. T.oagn officiating. Mr. Cooper died Friday morning in a lospital in Atlanta, where he had been for sev eral) months. Mr. Cooper 1 was wounded in the World War and was never well afterwards, although he was able to visit his family here only a few days before his death His wife and children have the sympathy of all in their sorrows. A profusion of snowy) dogwood blossoms banked mantels and was placed in large bowls on tables in ball, parlor and dining room, present ing a very attractive appearance to guests. At the social hour, after business was attended to, an amusing and ex citing hunt for Easter eggs was en gaged in, Mrs. Lancaster and Mrs. Rogers tying for the largest number, while Mrs. Carmichael and Mrs. J D. Thompson tied for the smallest number found. A contest with each word beginning with the sound of “eggs” was enjoyed. Mrs. Loftis served a salad course with coffee. The class was glad to have Mrs. Rowe of Carlton and Mrs. Pierce Maxey of Maxeys as visitors on this occasion. Until the 6th Vaughn pitching for Ila seemed to have things going in an easy way for a victory until the seventh, when the Comer Batters found him and pounded t’e ball at leisure. Willi ford pitching for Comer may be quoted as saying after (the game t!*at the game was so slow that it was like beginning anew game ev ery, inning and xhat no stage did he get to anything near to fox-m. The game was without spectacular playing with the exception of a two base hit over the right field fence by Rice who was receiving for Co mer.
