■Mr. H.M. Comer, receiver of the Cen
tral railroad, left Savannah Friday on
the City of Auguata for New York,
wh-ere he goes to confer with the pur-
ilea now encaged In pejrarlng a plan of
ri-orcanlaatlou for the Central railroad
propertlea, and to attend a meeting of
tha Southern Hallway and aUauiwUlp
Awodation, which will be twld there
ill Tueatrjy, July 17.
This wua the meeting that wne to
rave been held at Iriurrogate, 'i'eun,,
mt wua aujourned to .Manilas tun

cxplnea July 91.
-Mr. Con* r >ay» he line no doubt that
an «mItvibio agreomvnt will be reached.
Home vtepa Will probably be uikeu to
prevent, to a certain extent, tl»- cut
ting of rutin or givm;: rebated. He

THE plan in statu quo.
In regard to the Centnal'a plan of re-
organization, Mr. Cornier wild it la »tm
In atatu quo. tvhen askvJ if it wax
true that eome hohlcm In Central secu
rities wore objecting to the plan nn tt
ban been proposed «o far, ha antd tli-ie
were eorm- email objections, which did
not ttmoumt to much, uud which, he
thought, will be cleared away within
roinparatlvely abort time.
Ho had no further deinlle, be mid,
than those which he gave for publica
tion tho day ho returned from New
York. We raid at that time that It
might be several' w<v4t« before any
plan wae published, nnd probably it
might bo sovrnil weeks yet, but he
hoped, ho mid, Ihht It would take some
(Mlnlte ahnpe next week, Tho different
Interests are -till-at work on It, nnd ho
believed that tt would be ready
publication* within a short time.
WILL HR -SUTOUCT TO TAXATION.
Another feature Which has not yet
h’eti brought out Is that tho Central
railroad, after It haa been sold and re
organised under a new charter, will bo
subject to state taxation the sumo ns
any other oral or personal property.
AVhen the road ts entd It will lm.vo to
obtain a n*nv chartor undta* tho recent
law will eh provides that they be Issued
by the comptroller-general on the pay
ment of a nominal fee. In obtaining
this new eherler, however, the road
will lose some of the ehnrter rights of
Jts present charter. The chief Hntong
ttirae Is the fact thib It Is not at
prevent subject to slnte luxation on
Its roadbed nnd appurtenances.
Under tho cha-rliT of tho Central
railroad from Savannah to Macon, nnd
also under the net by which the road
was consolidated with tho Mneon nnd
Western from (Macon to Atlanta, the
ontlre road 'from hanninh ,to Atlanta
Is exempt from taxation except to the
extent of one-half of t per cent, on Its
nnn>nt net Income. No munlctpnl or
other corporation Is allowed to lax the
stock, but ran tax the mi! protv-rty of
tho road wlthtn Its Jurisdiction In the
name proportion In which similar prop,
erty is taxed.
WILL BR A LA.HOE ITEM.
When n new charter Is obtained,
however the roadbed nnd Its appurte
nances from Savannah to Atlanta will
he made subject to the stale tlx th
same ns nny other property w.'lhln tho
1 warders of the state. Whnt the prop
erty would tie returned nt. of course
ewnnot be stnted exactly, but It ts ns-
limate-1 tint In obtaining n new char
ter. and foregoing some of the privi
leges extended In the present ehnrb*r,
•tlio Central railroad will lose 950 000
or more « yenr. This uinoimt might
tie much larger. I* would, of course,
ynrv from year to year, nnd «o would
come under general expenies'' rather
than fixed charges. j t hr pmbil.le.
however, that this will be taken due
notin' rtf In tile preparation of tlio ro-
organlritlon plnn.
A COAt-rNn STATION HEIRE.
Mr. Comer was asked what he
nhourht about the establishment of a
coaling station for atramshlps In Sa
vannah. He said thit one hid been
ratnhlkhod in tho harbor which he
thought would In time prow' s very

THE LIVING PICTURE MANIA.
A. Craxe Has Struck Atlanta People Fore
and Aft.
Atlanta, July 15.—(Special.)—The living
picture mania, which has been running
riot In New York for eome time, .ft©a
struck Atlanta. The lirat exhibition. la
billed for Monday might at the Edgewood
Avenue Theatre. It will be as a sort of
sauce to the light opera bill that la on
there for the summer. How much spice
there will be in it remains to be eeen.
Various descriptive reports have been
put in circulation to whet the appetite or
the curious. One day, the preachers and
others who have taken a stand 1 against
such an exhibition, are told that the
pretty girls will certainly wear aprons
and bloomers, while the next, the front
rows and the gallery are given to under
stand, that the living picture will not
be hajnpered by enough drapery to dis
guise their artistic value.
As a result of the uncertainty about
the pictures—or, rather, the display—the
police have been keeping their eyes on
the Edgewood very closely, and will In
sist upon having a private view ot the
shapely girls before the curtain goes up.
