A SMALL CASE
KEPT GROWING
-
THE MACOH TELEGRAPH: THURSDAY MORNING, JULY 10, 1894
Harmony Proyallod, bat a Small Sanan-
tion WaaTbrealaued fora Whlla
—The Deputy Marshal Was
Finally hualalnod.
coolness announced much surprise at
tire 'attempted Impeachment ot one of
Marshal l/everett’s best and most re
liable men. He called upon Messrs.
A. F. Hobt, R. H. Smith and' another
Juror, none of whom were engaged on
this case, and lhad them take the
stand.
Bach of tho gentlemen said that they
had known Mr. White for. a long time
and had no hesitancy In believing him
on oath. Then, after some remarks by
the district attorney arid the defend
ant's attorney, the case was given to
the jury. Nothing of an inflammatory
nature *was said on either aide, as ru
mor had It on the streets yesterday
afternoon. All were perfectly peacea
ble dnd when the case was turned over
to the Jury the same quiet that char
acterizes every session 1 of Judge
Speer's daily court was restored.
The Jury returned a verdWt of guilty
when they returned to the court room,
and Judge Speer sentenced Halloway
to two months tn JaJl with a line of
{100.
The case engaged -the entire day’s
session of court and was only finished
ts time for a late dinner.
HBCOttNIZED SUPERIORITY.
Aew York Sends to Macon For Fine
Harness.
One of the handsomest us well ns
costliest sots of harness ever seen In
Huron has just been turned out from
the well-known establishment of O.
llcrnd & Co. of this city.
The 'harness was made to order for
it gentleman in New York, who in giv
ing his order said he had heard of the
superiority of the goods turned out
front the shop of Berad & Co., aud that
he wanted a flrat-clnss sot of haud-
tewed, double rtxtd harness. Stylo,
tlnish, etc., wtis lef t to the Judgment
and taste of Mr. Bernd, who, being u.
practical harness maker himself, and
lutving been In (the business all Ills life,
has not a Superior In his Uuo of busi
ness In the United States.
The mountings of the harness are
ell of fine hard rubber, while the
leather Is Holllnger’s, which Is consld-
trwl equal to any made. Every stitch
urns made by hand, cuul the finish nnd
workmanship Is ot tho very highest
claan. The harness manufactory ot
thUs houso Is equipped for tho highest
class of work und nothing but first-
class workmen are employed; as tho
liaracss exhibited yesterday attests.
The colhr Is the celebrated Kay col
lar, wldeh Is without on equal.
The price to bo charged for the har-
n«w Is $150, which Is cheap When du
rability, appearance and comfort to
ihe. horse are concerned.
Gi Bernil & Go. sell rhelr goods *n
Ml of t he Southern ntul Western slutra
tmd frequently receive orders from tho
Northern states.
THE SUPERIORITY
Of Hood's Sarsaparilla Is due to the
tremendous amount of brain work and
constant care used in Its preporntlon.
Try one bottle nnd you will ho. con
vinced of Its superiority. It purifies
the Idood which,, tho source of health,
cures dyspepsln, overcomes sick head
aches nnd biliousness. It Is just tho
medicine for you.
Hood’s Pills are purely vegetable,
carefully prepared from the best In-
gradients.

Case Developed Into an At

OF THE TESTIMONY OF A DEPUTY
Powder
A small moonshine case In the
United States court, yesterday that
was not larger than a man's hand when
It started cams near having a sensa
tional ending, and would undoubtedly
have resulted in a termination unusual
for this quiet tribunal had all Interest
ed not had cool heads.
The case around which this Interest
centres was that of the government
against Joe Holloway. Holloway Is n
negro who was charged with running
t.nd working tn an Illicit dlstlKery,
nnd was represented by Col. J. W.
l’reston.
Gariy In' the course of taking testi
mony It became evident tha't there
was to be a stubborn fight. Col. Pres
ton Is one of the most extensive fed
eral court practitioners In this dis
trict andi-has had fine, success in hla
practice. After neatly all 'the evidence
was in and 'the oase was almost really
lo go to the Jury a stir was created
io court when CM. Preston announced
that he would attempt to Impeach tho'
testimony of Mr. Geo'nge White, the
deputy marshal who arrested Hallo-
way upon a warrant issued from the
commissioner’s court.
Col. Preston called upon the witness
stand a man by tho name of Joe
Crubbs. Grubbs 'has been up before
the commissioner charged with work
ing In the suite still that got Hallo-
v.ay Into 'trouble. The attorney en
deavored to prove by Grubbs that
IWhite 'had told him that he and Dep
uty Marshal Kelly were often forced
to swear to a lie In the commissioner's
court to secure their prisoners oon-
victlon.
This put things in a decided hum. A
good deal of feeling was evidenced
und everybody began, thinking "what
next?” MaJ. Gary, the district attor
ney, got up. and with his characteristic
in the water, and see what
magical effect ithasonthedirt;see
how much labor it saves you; see '
how little it costs hi comparison
with, other washing compounds.
