The Southern railroad Is to bo one
of the tnost gigantic railroad systems
tn the world. If current stories are true.
The eyes bf all the world axe upon the
officials of that road, and no deal that
they might consummate -would surprise
the public.
Tho breadth of the undertaking when
the Southern was made out of a dozen
lines of road amazed the railroad world
as nothing had done In a decaie, hut
what is to c&me Is perhaps of greater
magnitude than what has been tlone al
ready.
The latest In railroad circles Is that
about two thousand miles of railway
are yet to be added to the 4,333 miles al
ready in the system. The public counts
on the Central being included In the
Southern, although Mr. Comer, the re
ceiver, Buys that It will be Independent.
The Central’s mileage, nt the time It
was placed-in a receivership was about
2.6(H).
The most Important rumor now cur
rent Is that the Queen and Crescent,
with ItB 1,191 miles of road, lbng ldentt-
Iled with the East Tennessee, is to be
taken into the fold of the Southern.
With it will come 'the Alabama Great
Southern. It oan be stated on pretty
good authority that these lines will be
come part of the consolidation.
But not half has yet been told. The
Now Orleans and Northeastern, with
198 miles of road: the Alabama and
Vlcksouifg with I4e miles, andtthe Vicks

The Alabama Great Southern 13 said
to be sure to tali unto tne hands of tue
southern under the foreclosure Bale of
August 22(1.
Such are the stories that are going
about among the railroad men, and they
are not without a basis In truth. The
brainy, effective railroad men do not ud-

m * ( “rot the injunction to ato£
the sale of -the securities of the Middle
Georgia and Atlantic railroad, for
wtoich the entire property Is pledged,
will be heard before Judge Falilgant
In the superior oourt of Chatham this
morning. As yet nothing has been
done w.th regard to the matter, and
tittle can be done until this question
M disposed of.
The defendants, it is understood, will
make a strong answer to the bill, and
-will bring out facts, they say, to dls-
8 rove the allegations made hy Mr. A.
Granger, who Is the petitioner for
the Injunction.
President J. p. williams ts made a
party defendant to the suit. It was al
lseed in,, the bill -that he was paid
31,800 for certain services hy -the Ogle
thorpe Savings and Trust Company,
Instead of 418.000, as was stated ln the
report of the proceedings. As a matter
of fact, 'however, It Is said lb. will bs
shown 'that this Is not the case, and
that .'the trustee had nothing to do
with the matter. It Is claimed that tho
action of Mr. Granger will accomplish
no good for the minority stockholders,
and, in fact, this Is so stated by some
of the defendants. . . ..
